MOTHERHOOD

late last night i was introduced into a new chapter of motherhood. the sick chapter.

L has had runny noses and coughs. she has had fevers and a weird throat infection compliments of a small diner in queens. she's had normal sickness. but last night was the first time she has vomited.

i was going to bed late, around 1 AM, when i heard what sounded like choking and gasping for breath coming from her room. i ran in to find her throwing up. vomit was everywhere. i went straight into mom mode. it didn't matter how bad it smelled. it didn't matter that before my little girl got sick, the sight of vomit always made me sick. what mattered was getting my scared, shaking little girl cleaned and comforted. i surprised myself.

i ran a warm bath and cleaned her help. M put the soiled items in the wash while i got her in clean jammies and settled in our room. the night didn't get any better. she was up from 1 AM - 6 AM, getting sick and feeling cruddy.

i sent M to sleep in the other room so at least one of us could sleep and avoid the germs. us girls finally fell asleep around 6ish and woke up a few hours later to some of the girls in my moms group knocking on my door because we were supposed to be hosting playgroup this morning. duh, me. i slept through my alarm and forgot to send emails and messages to all the girls. thankfully, they were all awesome and understood.

but as i was laying in bed, with an upset toddler, i realized this is motherhood. sleepless nights. putting everything you have into your kids. sick nights. loads of laundry. making bowls of chicken soup. i feel like i earned one more motherhood badge last night. no matter how hard it is, i love being a mom. it's what i am supposed to do. i know this with every fiber of my being.

today is a better day. i'm exhausted but errands and to-dos won over today. L hasn't thrown up since around 6 AM and she seems to be back to her normal self, mostly. we did another morning bath. all the bedding is getting washed and i lysoled the heck out of the house.

i am hoping it's just a 24 hour bug that leaves as fast as it came. no more sickies, please!

the weekend.

this one was a busy one. really, it was a 5 day weekend. M had some days off of work so we soaked up plenty of family time & ran lots of errands.

i hosted my first thirty-one party on friday. i have TONS to learn, but i think i am going to really like it. it's kind of fun having a business.

saturday we headed to the downtown area for the village may festival. it was nice to know our small town could put on such a big festival. there was live music, an ugly dog contest, tons of yummy southern & fair types of food. arts and crafts. even a few thrift store booths. M picked on me because i kept seeing people i knew and saying hi. he said i looked like my dad, because my dad knows everyone. it's good to feel like we are starting to belong somewhere though. like somewhere that can finally be home for more than 2-3 years.

after the fest, we headed home to rest for a few hours. and by rest, i mean i baked cookies and repacked L's diaper bag and did some dishes while she ran around like a crazy toddler. we had an invite to a friend's BBQ and didn't get home until 12:30 AM. it was nice though. good company. good food. L had fun playing with their sons and dog. M enjoyed the bonfire with the guys and drank a few beers. i got to hang out with the wife and talk girl stuff.

sunday was full of house stuff like cleaning and laundry and some yummy foods made by my awesome hubs. and L was the perfect blend of sweet and stubborn. and late night snuggles & book readings as a certain toddler cried and refused her way through bedtime.

hope your weekend was just as awesome.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

happy mother's day to all of you amazing moms out there!

mom's day around here was low-key. just because it's my day doesn't mean i stop being a mom. i cleaned the house and did the dishes. i did laundry. i watched after L and dealt with a few tantrums. i did some business stuff and i'm getting ready for the week.

i was lucky enough to sleep in until 9, score breakfast in bed, a chocolate cake and a homemade dinner.

it was awesome.

now i am hoping the kiddo goes to bed at a decent hour so i can score a few quiet moments. once upon a time is airing their season finale tonight. maybe i will score some cake & caffiene too.

a spring storm.

there's a storm brewing. a good storm. the dark clouds are taking over and the neighborhood is quiet.

i love a good storm. the peace it brings. it's like mother nature lets out her frustrations. her bad day. and then we can go back to our sunshine and blue skies.

in the mean time, i'm going to bunker down with my loves. eat a good meal. watch a good movie or catch up on DVR. make some snacks. play a game.

a good storm always reminds me to slow down. to breathe in each and every moment. to relish the day. so many times i am bogged down with emails and to-dos and bills to pay. i keep my calendar full of play dates and library trips and business parties. festivals and BBQs with friends.

so today, it's like mother nature is giving me a clean agenda for the day. and i'm taking it.
