HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

It's Halloween! I'm trying to forget about how sick I feel and focus on the fact that it's a holiday today!

My girl is more excited for her Halloween party tomorrow than trick-or-treating it seems, but I'm sure that will change tonight when she's loaded up with candy that may or may not get eaten by her parents! Currently, she's happy as a clam watching Pippi Longstocking (exactly how we spent last Halloween morning) and waiting on her cinnamon rolls. The weather outside is finally cooling off again and I can't wait for the chance to wrap a scarf around my neck and bundle my girl up.

I think we'll keep today simple and bake some cookies between cleaning up and decorating for our party before heading out tonight for the main event. Lia will be rocking her cheerleader costume again and M and I have some pennants to carry around to "cheer her on"!

PS.
This adorable ice cream costume is what she wore to her school party this week. She was pretty bummed to find out no costume accessories were allowed which knocked out her pom-poms and apparently you can't be a cheerleader without pom-poms. So, she dug this out of her dress-up box and we were all happy!

This is the fourth Fall we've spent in South Carolina! It's the longest that we have been in one town in all the years that M and I have been together. And this little pumpkin patch has captured our hearts. I have to admit though, I've used this place purely for their awesome set-up during the month of October. They are actually a working farm that produces tons of produce for the farmer's market, they have a very small country store and a year-round restaurant which I hear makes the best chicken and waffles.

Over the past weekend, M was telling me how we didn't really decorate for Halloween and he's been so busy. It seems we haven't really gotten a hold of the season but Halloween is in a few days! And, it's crummy but true. Life just hasn't slowed down for us lately and I'm pretty sure it's only going to get busier. We just keep piling things on the calendar and planning events and maxing out every single weekend. So a few mornings ago, I just had to take L to the pumpkin patch before we missed out. They were, of course, almost out of pumpkins and the grass (and hay tower!) was pretty wet and the sun was blinding us. But we managed to pull off some photos and laughs. Last year was the first time that L would go through the tunnel that's at the very bottom of the hay tower. This year, she had no fear. She ran to the top and back down the bottom and proudly yelled how she did it on her own!

We're hoping to make it back one more time this week with our guy!

And here's past years... 2011 | 2012 | 2013 ...

So, to cram as much festive fun into one day as we could...

We took a mini trip to a Harvest Festival in a village close by that, no kidding, looked like a movie set. It was one part rich southern style houses and one part quaint downtown area with lots of charm. It was also a bit of a money sucker but hey, the girl had fun. We took her on a hayride, bought her a banana slush and let her check out some farm animals.

Then we headed home for a quick costume change and met up with her friend to go to an early trick-or-treating event. This was the first year she decided on a costume and following past years, I insisted on making it. I had help from a friend with sewing a waistband on the skirt but everything else was all me. Including the pom-poms and "Go Team!" pennants that hung out in the stroller the whole time. L loved it though and she's pretty excited about the real deal on Halloween night.

We finished the night with a movie at home while we dug into the candy stash!

There's so many smart and funny and good things on the Internet. Here's just a few!

This is the best dance move.

A few different ways to decorate your pumpkin this year - one | two | three.

I am loving this fun pineapple trend - one | two | three.

Eww, Jimmy Fallon.

This hit me hard. Too often I find myself swept up in completing tasks or just moving until the day ends without stopping to see what's really going on and who really matters in my day.

Currently fueling my love of black & white by looking at this.

These emoji cookies are spot on and hilarious!

Loving this handmade combo.

Probably my favorite homemade kid costumes that I've seen online this season!

The Book with No Pictures seems like the craziest kids book but that doesn't stop me from wanting it on our shelves!

Have fun with these!

Because I can't pass a pile of pumpkins without documenting it. Also, she asked me exactly how many pictures I was going to take. She was very uninterested despite the forced smile I got out of her!

I'm doing this series - a portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2014. Follow along, link up & find more from this project here
