A CHRISTMAS RECITAL, 6

December 21, 2018

Another performance of The Nutcracker in the books! I was SO excited for this year's show. Lia has been taking extra dance classes for months on top of her regular ballet class. She got to perform twice in the show this year! Double the routines, double the costumes!

It was so great for her to push herself and see how far she has come. She's been dancing since she was 3 1/2 and once again, she brought me to tears.

We let her dance without glasses for the first time this year AND she talked me into a red lip. It's the first year I've let her wear makeup on stage and she was so giddy!

This year, she danced the role of an angel and a flower in the waltz of the flowers. I think it's my one of favorite dances yet! Though, I probably say that every year....

Here's to her dancing feet and what the next few months of ballet brings!

A CHRISTMAS RECITAL

L performed in her fifth year of The Nutcracker last week! It's always so much fun and (usually!) brings me to tears to see her progress through each different role. She grows so much in a year and it never hits me until I watch her dance every December.

She auditioned for the role of Clara this year and though she didn't get it, she was so humble and poised throughout the experience. She took on her roll of a party girl with the rest of her class with a little fun and grace!

Do any of your littles have Christmas recitals? Aren't they the most magical time?

PS. Nico wouldn't stand for not being in pictures with her so we had to try and trick him out of the shots!

HER SPRING RECITAL

Another season of ballet has wrapped up. We could not be prouder of our sweet girl. She danced the role of a princess at the ball in her studio's production of The Little Mermaid. This year was extra fun since she got to dance on stage with her dad! They twirled and he lifted her up and the danced together.

I get to see her on stage twice a year and every time I see her, it's like she shines even brighter. Her confidence grows and her skills and ability flourish. I just spend the entire time in awe of her! She's pretty amazing, this kid of ours.

THE NUTCRACKER 2015

Another year, another performance. I have to say, my girl still amazes me. She loves dancing and she takes it seriously and she puts everything she has out on that stage.

This year the music came on and the girls started dancing and Lia ran off stage. My heart sank! I froze for a second, unsure if I should run backstage after her or let her work it out. It turns out, I wasn't needed. Her ballet teacher whisked her back on stage and she picked up where she left off like nothing had happened. The piece of tape that marks her place on the stage had been accidentally picked up by the curtains and she didn't know where to stand.

She couldn't wait to tell us all about it but otherwise, it didn't affect her. She wasn't embarrassed or shy. She didn't forget her steps. She was brave and beautiful!

Afterwards, we went out for pizza which was the complete opposite of a relaxing, fun family dinner but still, we celebrated!

LIA'S RECITAL | YEAR TWO

July 3, 2015

Lia finished up her second year of ballet last week with a production of Peter Pan. She was a pixie dust fairy! Girl rocked it. She was only one of two girls in her class that did two shows that day. Which is a big deal, I think! I was so proud of her that I cried, of course. Keeping a little one occupied for an hour between shows in an itchy costume though is another thing. A bag of pretzels and a toy taxi did the trick and after a few more tries of styling that hair and we were in business for the second show.

Two ballet productions is pretty exhausting for a little one and a late dinner only added to all of that. But, this girl was amazing! All she can do is twirl around the house and flutter her arms like a fairy now. She's itching for ballet classes to start again!
