MAMA'S DAY

May 12, 2015

My babes did good on Mother's Day. Besides a pretty new doormat and some fun kitchen things, they were sweet and happy and the littlest babe TOOK A NAP!

M left late in the afternoon for a business trip so we squeezed in a trip downtown for lunch and a walk through Anthropologie. I can't walk in without leaving with a new latte bowl or two. It's an addiction...

And the night ended with both kids asleep by 7:30 and I crawled in bed with take-out and the season finale of Once Upon A Time. I mean, besides if I could have had M all day, it couldn't have been better.

THE CHILDRENS MUSEUM

May was kind of big around here for weekend birthday parties!

This one took place in a childrens museum attached to an old train depot/museum. L is missing in most photos because she ran wild the entire party. Thankfully it was gated in entirely with supervision so we were pretty okay with her doing her own thing.

The museum itself was full of hideaways and brick buildings and though we haven't been back yet, I'm itching to!

For Mother's Day this year, I didn't really want or need anything. But, if you ask me what would make me happy, this list is pretty simple. Fresh flowers, a nice day out with my loves and this year, a pretzel bun sandwich rounded out the list.

I was pretty bummed to be sick all weekend so we spent most of the day at home putting puzzles together and watching The Tonight Show. We made it to Savannah in the afternoon for a late lunch and a trip to Anthropologie. I grabbed a couple more latte bowls for my growing collection, we had some great sandwiches outside at a local burger place and popped into a few small shops.

I ended the trip a little short but the night ended with a quiet evening on the front porch and the sweetest cupcakes to be had.

It was a good one. I hope yours was too, xo!

Something I do love about where we live is that we're just a short car ride away from Savannah, Georgia. I grew up visiting the charming downtown area and I've always had a love affair with River Street. And it's pretty awesome to pass on my childhood love for this candy store to L.

After a quick stop at Oktoberfest last weekend, we popped into this bakery. I read this blog post a few months ago and ever since, I've felt the need to go. The place drips with charm and kindness. And honestly, I love when I can discover that the actual owner of the shop is in. She looked to be having a chat with friends or a casual business meeting, but you can tell she loves this place she's created.

I pretty much died over the mason jars, cake stands and recipe cards she sells. But, that day was about the cakes. L's "newborn" cupcake was heavenly. The perfect size for her little hands and it tasted amazing. M and I shared the milk chocolate cupcake and it was spot-on.

I think we'll be back soon!

CITY AFTERNOONS | SAVANNAH

June 26, 2012

last month we were spending the perfect afternoon in savannah and i realized how much i really miss the city. the feeling that it's full of life. the quirky people, the beautiful people, the families & children. the culture and the history. the charm that flows through the streets. i feel inspired every time i am in a downtown city area. i came up with a new tradition for my little family. we'll spend one weekend a month in savannah. soaking up everything it has to offer.

this past weekend is the weekend that worked out for june. and we had SO much fun.

we played ball in forsyth park. ate a picnic lunch of chicken salad, crackers and frosted animal cookies. cooled off with a cherry shaved ice from a street vendor. is it me or does everything from a street vendor taste better? like it's full of city vibes and germs. i fell in love again with the old trees that provide the perfect shade. and i squished my minty toes in the soft grass and thought over and over to myself; this. this is summer.

and then we were hot and sweaty and exhausted. we ended up at the mall and let l-bug make a new puppy at build-a-bear. his name is bear. and he's just the cutest thing ever. she likes to squish him and give him hugs. the girl is an animal lover, for sure.

i love that we have this amazing, historic city so close to us. i want lia to grow up with the same love of big cities that manny and i share. i want her to be inspired and to fall in love and to spend simple, perfect weekends in the city.

OUR ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND

May 21, 2012

we celebrated our anniversary this weekend! it's been five years since i walked down the aisle and promised to love M forever and a day. i'm happy to say we are both still holding strong to that promise ;)

we kept the weekend low-key. friday night we did some house-hunting and caught up on some dvr shows. saturday we had lunch at moe's and spent the afternoon walking around downtown savannah soaking up as much city life as we could. we stopped by this teeny bakery and bought a chocolate cupcake. i made M do the twisted arms/feeding cake to each other thing. ya know, we had to celebrate five years some way. everytime i am in savannah, i miss new york with every fiber of my body. but in turn, it makes me SO thankful that i have a quirky, historic city to roam around in close by with the suburban life i am used to and awesome beaches. i'm pretty lucky

yesterday we did a bit more house-hunting. i love dreaming of our future and i think we may have found the one. afterwards we hit up the freezing cold pool for a bit and i made arroz con pollo for dinner. i think i've finally mastered spanish rice.

now it's monday and time for a new week. playgroups to prep for, laundry to tackle, story-times to attend. there's a house to clean and a house to figure out how to buy. and lots of good moments to sneak in with my girl. my girl who is trying to get out of her nap by quietly playing in her room.

happy monday.

hi, weekenders!

i don't usually post on saturdays but the hubs is doing some work and l-bug is quietly playing. i thought i'd share a peek into our weekend.

last night we grabbed a pizza and ended up in savannah to check out the charlie daniels band and little big town. i said i was only going to eat 2 pieces. but i ate 3 1/2. it was SO good. but i did regret it. i felt sick and full of grease. we ended up parking a good 1/2 mile or so away from the park so i squeezed in an impromptu workout. yay me!

we got to the park just in time. the show started about 15 minutes early and it was packed. the show was amazing. it was seriously awesome to see the charlie daniels band live. and lia did great. this was her second concert (third if you count the one i took her to while i was still preggo!) and she LOVED it. we danced and sang and she would clap after every song. the girl loves her music.

we left the show early but it was a perfect evening. and savannah is gorgeous. i complained most of the walk back to the car because of my shoes, but walking downtown savannah reminded me of the streets of new york city and that made me happy.

she was eyeing the playground next to us.

today has been pretty low-key. l-bug slept through the night so we got to relax in bed a little longer this morning. i made a healthier version of french toast for breakfast, m did the dishes, we ran a few errands & rented a couple movies and then we took a 3 mile bike ride to the grocery store and stocked up on some fresh fruits and veggies.

we may take a family walk this evening but the day is just open. some weekends you just need an easy, open day.

ride a bike, enjoy family time...have fun. enjoy your weekend!
