Or when in New York, you should hit the ground running.

FAO Schwarz closed their doors the night we flew into town. I couldn't bear the thought of not having one more walk inside the store. We've taken Lia since I was pregnant with her. It's always on our list of things to do. 

Honestly, it was bittersweet. The store was empty and half closed so we snapped a picture with the inconic soldiers, said our goodbyes and crossed the street to Central Park where Lia talked her aunts into joining her super fast girls super hero trio. Or, something like that.

Sometimes, our best plans are when we literally have nowhere to go and we just pick a direction and start walking.

OUR FOURTH IN NORTH CAROLINA

We spent the Fourth exploring around the old governor's mansion. Once upon a time, the small town I grew up in was the capital of North Carolina and the governor lived in a gorgeous house called Tryon Palace. Now, it's for touring and reenacments and weddings (my brother got married there two years ago!).

The gardens were open and there was a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Nico was just happy to be outside. Lia loved walking us through the gardens and telling us what each plant was growing but she was a little bummed there weren't horses in the stable!

We spent the rest of our Fourth at a BBQ with family and friends (my little sister's future in-laws!) hanging out in the pool, dodging storms, eating all the southern foods and watching fireworks. This was the first year that Lia didn't cry during the show and Nico seemed happy enjoying them!

We spent our last day in New York with intentions of having lunch with M's sister and figuring everything else out on the way. I'm still not sure how the timing of the entire day ran so smoothly. We grabbed lunch at the Amish Market and set out for a nearby pier. We were photo-bombed by a few runners making us feel like classic tourists. And then you can't pass a cupcake bakery without stopping. We spent the rest of afternoon catching the Staten Island Ferry for reasons of having nothing better to do, caught the end of a soccer match and met up with some family for dinner.

It was also a good day. One of the best, really.
