WHAT I WANT FROM 2013

January 5, 2013

i had an hour to soak in a hot bath tonight and think about what i want to do this year so i hope you all aren't tired of reading these sorts of posts. here's what i came up with.

inspired by this printable, i want to do more of what i love this year.

the moments that stick in my head from the past year are all of me doing something i love. reading a really good book (like the hunger games or mindy kalings memoir). teaching myself to knit. riding a bike. spending a day at the beach with my loves. i just don't make time for myself to do those things often. i get wrapped up in housework or the ever growing to-do list. i want that to change.

the "do what you love" print is now hanging in my office to be my reminder each day.

i want to be more balanced.

in life. in my health. be more organized. more patient and kind.
i am tired of feeling like a frazzled woman every day who has nothing put together. i can't do that anymore.

i want to focus on the blog and my business.

i love blogging. and i want to get better at it. i want to document more here. maybe get a facelift and let this space really shine.
and i run a thirty-one business. too many times this year i have compared my success (or lack thereof) to others. too many times have i felt jealous of others. i started the business for me and my family. and that's what i need to focus on. i can only get out what i put in.

and being the list-maker that i am, i wrote a much longer list of specific goals but having 3 main goals keeps things do-able.

here's to 2013 and me actually doing what i say i'll do!

PEAKS AND PITS

oh my god. this week has been overwhelming.

like i've been a toddler wrangling, dog training, poop picker-upper, slight mess who seriously did not shower for 3 days. i probably just embarrassed my husband. and totally grossed him out. THAT was my real life this week. but don't worry, i did finally find time to shower last night. and somehow my hair still looks greasy...

after a massive poop blow out from mav this morning (thanks for that man), i fixed my hair, slapped on a smile & some make up and decided that it's gonna be okay. it has to be. that's the way the world works, right? i'm learning that i can't be perfect and neither can my life. any progress i am making lately is good. my house isn't going to look amazing every day but i am staying on top of the dishes. the laundry looks like freaking mount everest, but i did two loads today so that counts for something. i've got to let go and keep living. i need to do what i can and let the rest roll off of my back.

my week is going to have ups and downs and downright crappy times. that's a given. i'm just gonna embrace the heck out of all of it. so i bring you my new blog series, peaks and pits.

the peaks
+ mumford and sons. enough said.
+ dropping my phone several times and it NOT breaking.
+ my girl giving me random hugs.
+ maverick not pooping inside!
+ watching HP & the deathly hallows.
+ chevron tape in the dollar section of target. because no, i am not over that trend yet.

the pits
+ maverick pooping inside!
+ not showering for 3 days...
+ still not finding time to write down my goals for the year.
+ the hubby having to go back to work.
+ running out of paper towels and cleaning up a pee puddle on the floor with an old sheet.

link up in the comments if you want to join in!

pretty good week even if i feel like a crazed woman who's been losing all patience by 5 PM. here's to next week.

ps. when my hair looks dirty, i just bump it up. it makes it all better, no?

oh, also. one day i will blog about something other than pee or poop. may be a few years though...

WE ADOPTED A DOG. NOW WHAT?

January 2, 2013

the great mav. so here's maverick. the great dane/lab mix dog we adopted last week. we're still on a trial adoption to be sure we're all a good fit for each other.

he's been doing really good. the shelter thinks he may have been abused in his last home. he's pretty nervous and skittish sometimes. if i move my hand wrong and make a loud noise, sometimes he flinches or jumps out of the way.

we're working on making him and toby the best of friends. so far they tolerate each other. we're working on house training and leash training and all sorts of things. we've really taken him in as if he's already part of the family. okay, who am i kidding? he is part of the family.

but the POOP. guys, the poop. it's a real issue. he is constantly pooping inside. and a dog this size does some serious business. his farts alone could knock us out. he's a stinky dog. and i am out of ideas to get him pooping outside. and how do i get the smell out of the carpets & air? the entire upstairs is starting to smell like we run a shelter.

at this point, any advice and tips are seriously welcome.

he's kind of goofy with some serious strength and a strong love for the sofas and our bed. he fills both of them out. he's eating us out of the house and sloshes gallons of water around. and when the shelter said he didn't bark? straight lies. and under no circumstances can we EVER give him a tennis ball.

but other than the unpleasant smells + all that jazz, he's a great dog. and we're loving him. oh! and lia calls him maggot. nice, huh?

ps. M went back to work & its our first day alone. i only feel slightly overwhelmed with this huge guy, our temperamental dachshund and the strong-willed toddler. oy.
