SWIM LESSONS, AGAIN!

June 15, 2017

Swim lessons started again this week! Last year, Lia was NOT a fan of swim lessons. She cried and refused to jump in the pool and did not want to go back after the first lesson.

So, we did a second week last year. And that one went a little better. She was excited, at least!

A GIRL AND HER GLASSES...

March 15, 2017

We let Lia pick out a new pair of frames after her recent eye check and after trying on at least 15 pairs she decided on these. She is growing up so fast and I find myself clinging to the moments where she's still a little girl. If I'm being truthful though, those moments are fleeting. So, here's to this spunky girl and those spunky frames!

SEVEN!

She's been my gal pal for seven years now. It's been a wild ride.

She's in the 1st grade now and she loves to learn. She's learning to read and my heart soars each night that she makes her way through a book.

She's into all things girly like make-up and painting her nails and wearing dresses and skirts every chance she gets.

She's into playing games on her iPad, crafting up art projects and little drawings that she spreads around the house, she's recently come to love macaroons, and she loves American Girl books.

She's growing up so quickly and it shows, but at the same time she wants us to remember that she's still little. It's a delicate balance that we strive to reach every day with her.

She's the best big sister. She's the best daughter. She's the best everything.

SWIM LESSONS...AGAIN

August 1, 2016

We started a new week of swim lessons this week. Free of tears, you guys. FREE. OF. TEARS.

Our girl is still struggling with confidence in the water. I know she can do it. Her coach can see that she can do it. SHE just has to figure out that she can do it. But, she is taking on this set of classes with bravery and an open mind.

And that - well that's better than anything. Imagine if we all just dove into our plans and the things we needed to accomplish with an open mind EVEN while we knew it was hard and it was scary.

Just imagine...

Anyways, I am off to dive into my own hard and scary thing. I've giving my very last speech tonight in my public speaking class. The impossible has become possible. Fingers crossed!

SWIM LESSONS

We finally took the plunge (ha!) and signed L up for swim lessons. Being surrounded by water and finally having a pool in our neighborhood meant it was time to get serious. She had her first lesson this morning and I can't say she was the biggest fan. There were some tears and pouting. She wasn't overly willing to try new things. Though, she did at least walk into the pool and put in some effort.

It's funny because I see so many qualities of mine in her yet those same qualities frustrate me when she won't open up and try something new. Parenthood, man. I know she WANTS to swim, but she can't be pushed. Her coach is laid back and keeps her patience while being firm, so we've got that going for us. Fingers crossed some swimming confidence finds its way to our girl this week.

PARTY ANIMALS

January 12, 2016

We threw our little party animals a fun little bash to celebrate them together! So, I hope you guys are ready for a lot of pictures.

We have a thing for hosting parties in our house. I like the old school and simple feel of birthday parties here. Loved ones piled around the table while we sing Happy Birthday. Kids pouring into the backyard to play. Our backyard has seen a few celebrations in it's time. A gender reveal, a couple birthday parties, family movie nights. It's becoming quite the memory holder.

I kept everything low-key and gave in to L's wishes for a bounce house. These things used to terrify her so I spent most of the party amazed that she was happily bouncing around!

We served a few snacks, pizza and cake, of course. Lia loved hers. Nico wasn't the biggest fan of his. And to go along with my usual non-goodie bag favor, we handed out kraft bags of frosted animal cookies with a tiny animal tied on.

The biggest surprise of the day was when M's mom and sister showed up to our house (from New York) the minute the party was starting. Lia's face was priceless. Girl ran through the house screaming "MOM ABUELA AND ARISBEL ARE HERE!!!!!". She has a flair for drama and she was over the moon excited.

The party was a hit, I think. The kids were spoiled beyond necessary with piles of gifts and more piñata treats than I thought would be left.

Here's to another fun party in the books.

L E A V E S

A few weeks ago we raked up the front yard just so we could introduce L to the fun of jumping in a pile of leaves. Our tree is bare now and that bums me out a bit. But these kids and those leaves have my heart swooning still!

HEART EYES FOREVER AND EVER, AMEN

THESE TWO! Seriously.

Bestest of friends right here, you guys. They adore each other. They make googly eyes at each other. When she comes home from school and plays with him? He thinks it's THE BEST. When she wakes up in the morning, she always ends up in his room to read books or dance for him until I make my way in there.

And I'll say it again and again, watching these two grow up together is the single best thing I'll do my entire life.

Heart eyes forever.

LIA GRADUATES PRE-K!

July 2, 2015

Lia is at her grandparents house in North Carolina this week and I'm missing her so! Lots of big things have been happening for her - graduation,  her ballet recital, new glasses and prepping for Kindergarten. I feel like growth comes in full spurts and leaves you begging time to slow down. So, it seems like a perfect time to catch up with some posts all about her.

She graduated from pre-kindergarten last month! We had a little party at home after the ceremony and my sister and nephew drove into town to celebrate with us. There was pink cake and we finally gave her the scooter she's been begging for. She's, of course, ridden it only a handful of times since :)

I love seeing her grow up. A big part of me is pretty bummed my side kick is going to school full-time this Fall but she's ready for the next step. And how can I not be excited to watch her grow?
