We threw our little party animals a fun little bash to celebrate them together! So, I hope you guys are ready for a lot of pictures.

We have a thing for hosting parties in our house. I like the old school and simple feel of birthday parties here. Loved ones piled around the table while we sing Happy Birthday. Kids pouring into the backyard to play. Our backyard has seen a few celebrations in it's time. A gender reveal, a couple birthday parties, family movie nights. It's becoming quite the memory holder.

I kept everything low-key and gave in to L's wishes for a bounce house. These things used to terrify her so I spent most of the party amazed that she was happily bouncing around!

We served a few snacks, pizza and cake, of course. Lia loved hers. Nico wasn't the biggest fan of his. And to go along with my usual non-goodie bag favor, we handed out kraft bags of frosted animal cookies with a tiny animal tied on.

The biggest surprise of the day was when M's mom and sister showed up to our house (from New York) the minute the party was starting. Lia's face was priceless. Girl ran through the house screaming "MOM ABUELA AND ARISBEL ARE HERE!!!!!". She has a flair for drama and she was over the moon excited.

The party was a hit, I think. The kids were spoiled beyond necessary with piles of gifts and more piñata treats than I thought would be left.

SIX!

Our girl turned six this evening and we celebrated by giving her reign over the entire day. She chose Build A Bear and mac & cheese for dinner!

I feel like 6 is one of the last ages where she's really a little girl. Already she loves listening to Bruno Mars and wearing my red lipstick. She's smarter than what's good for her. She knows when I say a bad word under my breath. And she never fails to point it out.

But, she's also sensitive and quiet. She wears her heart on her sleeve. She talks nonstop, but not always about the things that are bothering her. Unless she's scraped her leg and then you'll never hear the end of it.

She's funny and quirky. She's recently loving on Legos. She acts like a mom to her little brother and loves him more than anything. She takes her vitamins seriously. She loves books. She loves cellphone games too.

And no matter how many times a day I feel like I am parenting her wrong, or that I am failing, or that I really can't take another tantrum or attitude from her, she's perfect. My sweet baby who took her sweet time coming into this world is absolutely perfect.

Happy Birthday baby cakes. I am so excited for everything that's waiting for you!

A BACKYARD MOVIE BASH

I erred on the side of caution and decided a simple backyard party would be a pretty low-key party approach. With being 38 weeks pregnant, one week away from my c-section and feeling pretty tired and sore most of the time, I just wanted to enjoy celebrating our girl on one of our last days as a family of three.

She chose the movie and I pulled everything else together. We decided this could be the first year she was allowed to invite everyone in her class along with a few extra friends and I am SO proud of how well she handled so many friends and all of the attention. She even blew out her candles on her own this year!

We served up a tray of hot dogs for the kids while they ran off some energy in the backyard before we let them hit the piñata and enjoy cake! Once it got dark enough, we turned on Frozen, passed out glowsticks and served up each kid their own paper bag of popcorn and let them choose from mini movie candies to munch on. Most kids didn't make it through the entire movie but our girl sure did have a blast while it lasted! The rain held off until the very end, so L and a few friends went inside to open all of her gifts before they said goodbye.

And each kid got to take home a mini piñata favor full of, yep, more treats!

It was such a good party and so fun to see our backyard full of people there to love on and celebrate our girl. And, I'm forever grateful to my mom and sister for surprising L with a visit because they rocked all the behind the scenes things during the party while I got to snap a few photos and sit down to chat!

It's crazy to know this makes five birthday parties down and countless to go!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIA!

And just like that, she turned five.

It's 8:30 at night, we just finished the dinner, cupcake and birthday song round. She's currently playing with her new princess dolls and lucking out with a late bedtime.

Earlier this evening, we surprised her with a trip to the movies to see Annie. She deemed it "not a bad idea" and I called it a win. Cozying up with my loves in a dark movie theatre watching one of the cutest movies I have seen lately wasn't a bad way to celebrate our girl turning 5 on this gray, rainy day. I pretty much let Lia do whatever she wanted this morning including watching too much TV and dragging all her toys onto a big pile of pillows and blankets on the living room floor.

The birthday girl requested macaroni and cheese with deviled eggs for her big birthday dinner. The girl knows what she wants! We cooked up a quick dinner after the movie and stuck a few candles into store-bought cupcakes and called tonight a festive celebration. Her party comes on Saturday but today is the day that holds my heart.

Happy Birthday, babycakes. You continue to amaze me every day. I'm so thankful I was chosen for you and you were chosen for me. You are forever my little sidekick!
