BACK TO SCHOOL

September 9, 2020

School is back in session! We started later in the year than usual thanks to covid and district decisions. I'm not complaining though. That stretched-out summer was a nice bonus after this mess of a year.

Nico is starting Kindergarten! Be still my heart. It is the strangest feeling to know we have two school-aged kiddos. Lia is entering 5th grade and in the kids' K-8 school, 5th is considered middle school!

Yesterday was the first day and outside of a small zoom class hitch, the day ran smoothly. It was long and weird and the kids were exhausted by the end but we survived! Dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant and a stop at Ben + Jerry's was the perfect way to round out our evening and reconnect.

I'm so grateful for teachers that are godsends. I don't know how they have the amount of patience it takes to zoom with 18+ kids and keep them all on track. They are amazing. We love our school and we love our community and despite so badly wanting to be in a classroom setting, we're doing it virtual style and embracing the good.

Grace and deep breaths, friends. And, ice cream and anxiety meds and whatever else you need too!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

August 20, 2018

Both of the kids are in school this year. It's nuts!

Nico is going to a 2-day/week half-day preschool program at L's old preschool. He started last week and I think he loves it! He tells me every morning when it's time for school that he's not going. Of course, he runs right into the building when we get there and has zero issues with me leaving. Because, kids. ;)

It's adorable though. He's coming home with simple worksheets he's completed and tells me that he's made two friends that he plays with. It's just so good for him!

Lia started THIRD grade today. Third! That is nuts. Because, I swear I just dropped her off at her kindergarten door and wiped away the tears. There were no tears this year. We were on our game and at school early and she just said goodbye and hopped out of the car. Kids, man.

I keep wishing for little sneak snippets of her day like they'd send in preschool. But by third grade, that bandaid has been ripped off. I'm sure she had a great day and it's so fun to watch her grow and change. It still hurts just a little though.

And, on a super real note - I'm so glad summer is over! I was losing my mess.

Here's to a new school year! ❤

LIA RUNS FOR SCHOOL!

April 4, 2018

Is anyone else a little "eh" on the school fundraiser subject? Let's sell x amount of product to every single person you know to raise money and then do it all over again next year. I just don't get it. L goes to this really great local public school though and instead of selling cookies or wrapping paper every year to raise funds, they host a fun run. Because let's be honest, no one really wants to sell crap. It's annoying and I just don't have the time. But getting the kids to be active while raising money? I can completely get behind that!

Our girl ran all of her laps with a smile on her face and we cheered her on from the sidelines! She's proud of herself and her school can afford some new shade structures and play equipment. Win, win!

BACK TO HOME + SCHOOL!

Home sweet home! We got back from Mexico a few nights ago and it feels crazy good to be home again. We're jumping right back into life and routines. Starting with the first day of school!

L started second grade this morning! Which seems absolutely too much for me. Her first grade teacher was beyond amazing and really helped shape Lia. We all miss the magic that we experienced in first grade but we're still pretty excited about what this year is going to bring.

I can't wait to hear all about her day!

FUN(NY) LITTLE VALENTINES

February 13, 2017

L's school is a healthy-choice school. On top of that, her class is FULL of allergies. So, we always stick with non-treat valentines to be on the super safe side. I like the fun touch that a homemade valentine brings and she's never really been the one to want to pick out her own from the store.

So, homemade and simple it is! We put these together quickly last night after bath time. I cut the cards out but she handled the rest.

I found the printable over here!

And, if you still need valentine ideas, here's a few others we love...

DECEMBER AROUND HERE

December 13, 2016

As Monday rolled around this week, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. I had forgotten what it felt like to have nothing looming over my head and no crazy tasks topping my to-do list. I have been so busy with what feels like everything that I haven't taken much time for myself.

I was scrolling mindlessly through Instagram earlier this week and I came across a photo that had a caption that hit me. It went something along the lines of a mom posting that she was two years postpartum and a few months post breast feeding and she FINALLY felt like she was finding herself again and coming out of a fog.

Besides the breastfeeding part, that's how I am feeling. I wrapped up my last semester of school last week. I'm taking a semester off to figure out what comes next. I'm excited about the break!

With school over, all of our Christmas shopping done, the surprise trip for the kids booked, and nothing else but that and Christmas left on our list for this year, I can guiltlessly choose to not stress this month and to binge watch TV during nap time. I can choose to just be for a few weeks.

Mundane tasks like folding laundry and scrubbing toilets is my top priority right now and it feels kind of nice.

My brain is starting to whirl again - ideas for my business, the desire to dust this blog off again, plans to clean out closets and drawers, and find ways to feel like I am on top of my game again.

For now, December is going to be my jam. I'm taking a breather and soaking up the cheer and fun and twinkling lights with my loves.

FIRST DAY OF FIRST GRADE

August 15, 2016

It's quiet, you guys. My biggest little is in school. My wild littlest little is napping. The house is actually clean and I'm pretending the laundry isn't piled up.

I get an afternoon to MYSELF. I could read a book. Or, catch up on Orange is the New Black. Or, get caught up in all the crazy "back to school teacher gift ideas" on Pinterest. Kidding, I already did that one.

But really, it's kind of nice to be on this side of things. We did the kindergarten thing. She's in first grade now. First graders know what they are doing. First grade moms are just excited that we got our crap together quick enough to get out of the door in time.

I met some friends for donuts this morning and they had all just dropped off their kindergarteners. And I was just thinking, I love you women but I am SO not envious of you right now.

First grade is where it's at. I'm off to make a list of all the things I can do in my newly found spare time!

BACK TO SCHOOL TRADITION!

August 14, 2016

Summer vacation is over...

I honestly don't know whether I want to laugh or cry. I think structure and schedules work really well for us here but both me and my girl are feeling the stress and unsettledness that comes with a new chapter.

She's also struggling with the idea that with school comes less time with me. I can really suck at balancing my time and her sad face telling me tonight that she doesn't want to go to school tomorrow because she won't have enough time with me pretty much shattered my heart.

But! We kicked off the start of a new school year with our traditional backyard movie. We set up a projector, piled snacks on a tray and settled in the backyard with twinkly lights, comfy pillows, and The Peanuts Movie.

We're BIG fans of Charlie Brown and the movie had us all laughing and dancing. To be honest, it really just had us all being together, really together, in the same place.

It's probably one of my favorite traditions!
