Happy Friday! It's a quiet evening over here with a little girl who's practicing the art of saying "no". I'm pretty sure the evening is gonna include stromboli and old episodes of How I Met Your Mother and me trying not to lose my patience. And we've got big plans to finally tackle the garage and clean it all out this weekend!

The week started off a little rough but things are smoothing out. We had a few rainy days and L got to use her umbrella. It looks like a panda and she's pretty over the moon about it!

The daffodil fields opened up and the girl and I spent an afternoon there. This year was really fun because she finally understood how to pick the flowers without crushing them at the same time.

Is anyone excited about The Bachelor finale coming up? The show (and guy) have gotten lame this season, but it's almost so lame I can't stop watching!

And the babe got new shoes! It's her first pair of Toms. I think they make her feet happy.

Here's to an awesome weekend. Enjoy it, xo!

Four is a fickle stage for clothes around here. She's in between sizes in mostly everything and that leaves me scratching my head most mornings when it's time to get her dressed. I'm kind of ready for Summer just so we can fill her closet with soft dresses, easy basics and a pair of saltwater's.

A funny story about her New York shirt. She didn't like it in the store until we told her it said New York. She wanted it then and if you ask her now what her shirt says, she'll tell you "I love Abuela and Abuelo. And Beto.". Her paternal grandparents and one of her uncles.  From New York, of course!

Happy weekend, everyone! I can't believe we're half-way through November already. I'm itching to start thinking about Christmas but I'm still a pretty firm believer in giving every holiday it's due justice.

I managed to get away for some much-needed me time this week. I escaped to the movies on a Sunday afternoon to see About Time and I fell in love with the movie. Toby finally received a perfect bill of health from his vets and things are getting back to normal with him. I'm grateful that he's usually a laid-back dog because I seriously missed that the past few weeks. L started to ask questions with a "may I" instead of a "can I" or just demanding things. It's so funny and adorable!

Also, we painted a small wall in the kitchen with chalkboard tonight. I've got some plans for it once it's dry and ready to go - I think it's going to be good. And now, since my girl is feeling under the weather and napping (at seven PM!) and no one got any sleep last night, I'm taking this book and a few chocolate chip cookies to bed. Please tell me I'm not the only one that copes with rough days with chocolate chip cookies!

Enjoy your Saturday night, xo.

DUSTING OFF MY BLOGGER HAT

August 27, 2013

Hey, I'm out of hiding! Sorry I'm not sorry that it was so long. I just lived life and filled my social media hole with too many rounds of Candy Crush. But! I did enjoy sleeping in with my girl and going out to dinner with my loves and staying on top of the laundry and dusting. I pulled my big camera out more often to snap L in her element. And I drove the bug around to preschool and ballet. Which by the way are both total hits around here.

My girl is flourishing in big ways as of late. I mean, to keep things real though, she still throws these stubborn tantrums and asks me "what my problem is". So you know, she's pretty much a teenager now. The kind that dresses up as a princess, lives off pretzels and applesauce and thinks tea parties are what's up.

Other than that, things are things and life is being lived. L got new glasses. It's all pink forever, all the time over here. M got a new car and started another semester of college. I got shiny, yellow barstools.

And now I'm just doing my best to keep up with the pace of our quickly changing schedules and lives. Life is good, you guys.

PS. Put your toddler in weekend jeans. It's too much.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Turkey BLTs.
Homemade chocolate-peanut butter chip cookies.
Streaming old episodes of Glee on my iPhone.
A loud thunderstorm.
Twinkling lights and candles.

It's a girls night in our little nest while M is at work. And after a day of cleaning (for me) and playing (for her), it's nice to just be. Sure, there's a sink full of dishes and a mini-mountain of laundry, but I'm pretty sure the storm is code for "Hey, just stop and be".

At least, it's what I am hearing... Happy Wednesday, xoxo

Last week was pretty slow, which worked out nicely as we adjusted to being home again and unpacking. Paired with the rain we've spent a lot of time indoors playing with dolls & reading.

I recently finished the Beautiful Creatures series and this book. I'm starting this one now. Has anyone read it?

I finally caught up on The Bachelorette and while I'm not really into any of the guys in particular, the drama is entertaining! It's always crazy how much drama there can be between a group of guys.

This song has been on replay all week. L calls it the lalala song and she's pretty crazy about it.

We're still in the swing of summer and fully enjoying it but with talk lately of ballet classes & preschool for the babe, Fall is creeping into my heart and it may have me swooning just a bit. But to keep things real, we're still eating our weight in frozen yogurt cones every day.

Hello Apparel had an awesome sale over the fourth of July weekend and I snagged up the hello tank for L. I'm bummed that I ordered it a little too small but we love it so.

We had a family car wash the other night. Which turned into a toddler tricycle wash. Have you seen this fun DIY? Wouldn't it be fun for a play date?

And a few things I loved around the internet this week...

This piece on a semi-local bakery. I'm pretty to go visit soon.

I love this etsy shop for children's clothing. My favorites are 1 | 2 | 3.

Are you following The Everyday on bloglovin' yet? I made the switch with Google Reader being offically closed and I'm really liking it.

And the previews for this new comedy have me lauging out loud.

Today is going to be a super lazy day at our house. I'm trying to kick whatever has me feeling crummy and we're gearing up for a busy week. So, happy Monday xoxo

top: walmart || skirt: target, thrifted || shoes: saltwater || headbands: c sister bands

last week, a sweet blog reader sent us some awesome headbands and bows and in exchange i snapped these photos above for her etsy shop. and can i just say - we love them!

this cheerios commerical is seriously sweet. but the mean, hateful response it got is not.

this DIY concrete stool is a brilliant (and cheaper!) solution for our backyard table dilemna.

and this would give our arched door ways a serious pop!

pretty little liars AND switched at birth started this week. just call me a nerd.

also, this book series. i'm on the third one and i almost want to stop reading just so it never ends.

and lastly, if you haven't checked out her blog - do it! the pictures of her house (because i stalk follow her on instagram too) are giving me big time inspiration for our new home!

that's it for the link love. it's late. and way past this gal's bedtime. rarely do i stay up late just for quiet or me time or blogging or anything less than required.

happy weekending!

THE CUTEST GAP YOU EVER DID SEE

May 17, 2013

we're back in business today with some grainy photos and a toothless grin. you guys, yesterday was hard. there were a lot of tears from me and the little one. but we made it through and i honestly think that lia does not remember the experience. she knows she went to the dentist and has some sparkly teeth and she knows one is gone but she doesn't remember what happened. me on the other hand? those screams will be etched on my heart forever.

it truly sucks to sit by and not be able to do anything while your kid is screaming for you. being a mother fills you with this feeling of always needing to be able to care for you kid. no matter what. i always want her happy and healthy and smiling. but it also brings the feeling that sometimes you have to let someone else do their job to keep your kid happy and healthy. it's such a bad feeling knowing that my motherhood powers don't do it all.

BUT we can't do it all, as much as we want to. so i am thankful to have found a really good pediatric dentist that took such good care of our girl. i know i've probably said this everywhere but for the record: she had one tooth removed, one tooth crowned and two fillings.

but that gap is too darn cute. and she was over the moon excited to see the tooth fairy visited last night and left her a dollar. she carried all of her money around with her all morning. she's back to her normal spirited self and all is good here!

ps. thanks for the thoughts, prayers, good vibes, etc. we really do appreciate it all!

HEY IT'S MAY

May 1, 2013

it's may! spring is here in the south, along with sticky humidity and annoying bugs. but we've got sunshine, may flowers and beautiful days so it all balances out right?

there's lots of fun stuff coming up this month. cinco de mayo is in a few days, which is always a good excuse for this blended family to make tacos and margaritas. or grab some on the road this year as we'll more than likely be picking up our gorgeous girl from her grandparents.

there's also mother's day, military spouses appreciation day, may day, sally ride day and no dirty dishes day. okay so maybe that last one isn't so much a national holiday as it is a day all of us mama's would love, but it's a real thing!

and our 6 year anniversary is coming up! seems like just yesterday my twenty-year old self said "i do". our lives are so different now, but i would do it all over again.

other happy things for may:

on my craft-it list | printed dish towels

did you know this? | kitchen tips

and three clips from the ellen show that had me literally laughing out loud | 1 2 3

i'll be back tomorrow with a DIY that is sure to give you happy kiddos. happy may day!

CHEERY YELLOW FLOWERS

February 22, 2013

sometime last year we discovered this tucked away daffodil field. a local farm runs it and they have it open for a short time of the year until all the daffodils have been picked. it's fun to let the kids run around and i never say to fresh flowers.

we went with some of L's preschool friends last week. the kids had more fun playing than picking but we managed to leave with enough to fill a couple mason jars around the house with some cheerful flowers. i think we need to go back soon though!

i love that we live in a place where farmer markers are open year-round and buying local from farms and small shops is encouraged. fresh flowers may be something small but to teach a child about the process is pretty awesome.

the peaks
counting down the days until we leave for hawaii
the yo gabba gabba show
getting a fence installed in the backyard
pizza takeout when i'm feeling crummy
a sweet & simple valentines day
a healthy toddler who had a good 3 year well visit
 a long weekend

the pits
getting sick
lia getting sick
target being crummy about shipping things
all of this chilly weather - call me crazy but i wouldn't mind some warmer days
being really bad with eating habits
we put potty training on the back burner again

and since i missed last week, there was a few extras there.

happy weekending!
