THANKFUL TUESDAY

Thankful Tuesday is coming at you late today. My days have been BUSY! Just since Saturday, I've had Ikea trips, building sofas, a babyshower, WIC appt, doctor appt, 4 trips to Target/grocery stores, a birthday dinner for a friend and a spouse's luncheon. Whew! Therefore, I'll leave the linky up until tomorrow if anyone (seriously, anyone at all?!) wants to join in. I know you have something to be thankful for!

That being said...this week I am thankful for:
A good community of people. Not everyone in NY is great, but the military spouses here can be pretty close and that's nice to have.
A warm house because of this snow storm headed our way.
The snowstorm. So maybe life will stop for a day and I can play catch-up with the house!
A beautiful little girl. She never ceases to put a smile on my face.
My house being completely fixed.
Our new sofa. It's so comfy.
Having places to go this week so L and I weren't stuck at home everyday.
My new followers! You guys are awesome. It amazes me that you guys want to read what my life is about!

operation paperback.

Everyone seems to be talking about "paying it forward" these days. Well, here's a new way to pay it forward.

Operation paperback is a non-profit organization based out of Pennsylvania. They collect gently used books and send them overseas to our troops. Since 1999, they've shipped over 1.1 million books around the globe. How awesome is that?

Our troops do SO much for us. It's nice to give back to them. Maybe it will make their time overseas a little easier. You can visit their website here to find out how to help!

Military families can now request a shipment of books. There is a form here. All you do is fill it out, let them know what kind of books you'd like and they'll send you a box of about 20-30 books! I just signed L-bug and myself up for some books.

Since I'm lucky enough to receive a shipment, I'll be collecting some to make a shipment to a troop member overseas. I encourage you to do the same!

Also, it's military monday. Check out the blog hop here and find some new blogs!

I've neglected you again, blog. For that, I am sorry!

I am finally feeling better. I'm still a little congested & stuffy and I'm still on antibiotics but I am feeling like me. And, I couldn't be happier about that.

Life is finally getting back on track and I feel like my new year is starting now. Our house is done, it's just a mess! We got built our new sofa. Yes, we built it. But that's a whole other blog post. Everything is getting back in order and it feels good.

I'm still keeping up with P365. That post will be up on Friday. I've also got a few other blog posts I'll be working on and I've got one for military families planned for today!

Happy Monday!

A BIRTHDAY PARTY

January 7, 2011

Okay okay. You can stop throwing the daggers at me. Okay, I'm kidding. No one's throwing daggers at me. But I'm pretty sure people are sending slightly annoyed mind messages at me to post birthday pictures. Or comments. Bri.  Ha. Kidding again. Sort of.

It's only been a week? It's been a week! Oh man, I'm not sure which fact I can't believe more. It's been a very long week. But on the other hand, it's been a week and I haven't posted a single picture anywhere of my bug's party? Mommy fail.

No promises this is gonna be a fantastic post. I don't even have all the pictures yet. My camera died sometime during the gift-opening part. Luckily, my mom was armed with her (charged!) camera. I'll get those soon. I promise!

So, first off. I have to thank my mom. I would have never gotten this party together without her. She'll say she didn't do much, that I did all the hard work. And, while I only had her help the day of the party, she rocked. She was washing dishes left and right, throwing together sandwiches, entertaining L, dipping pretzels, sending my dad for balloons. Yeah, she totally rocked. Thanks mom!

It was a great party. Despite our house being a mess and really not having a ton of space, we shared the day with family and our closest friends. L loved the balloons. The kids had fun snacking and playing games. The adults had fun watching the kids. It was a very humbling, great day. It hit me when we were singing happy birthday to L. It hit me that this is one of those big life moments you will remember for the rest of your life. This little girl who started life at 6 lbs 11.4 oz and those big, brown eyes is now a year old. She's been here with us for 365 days. 365 days of bliss, hard work, tears, screaming fights, loving nights, sleepless nights, proud moments, a few scares, a couple tumbles and bruises, kisses and giggles.

It's so amazing that M and I brought her into this world and she's so amazing and perfect.
Seriously, someone get me a thesaurus. I can't think of a more fitting word than amazing.

For the decorations, we used tissue paper pom poms, a birthday banner, pink balloons, paper chains, snowflake garlands, paper snowflakes, picture garland and handmade birthday hats.
Her colors were pinks, white/silver and light blues.

This cake was made from scratch by me and frosted by M. We're a great team!

We had an assortment of finger foods. Mini chicken salad sandwiches, chocolate covered pretzels, chips & dip, cheese and snowflake crackers, white cheddar popcorn and melted snowmen cookies.

the birthday outfit
Shirt - Old Navy
Tights - Target
Tutu - Handmade by me
Hair bow - Gift from aunt shell

 Make a wish, baby.

 Mmm, that cake looks good.

 I ate all of mine...

Maybe I can grab another piece and no one will notice. Oh! If only it was a little closer...

All in all, this beautiful party ended with a very sleepy baby and a happy & relieved mama and daddy. The day was bittersweet. I may have shed a tear or two, knowing my baby isn't really a baby anymore. But I am so excited to see what our future holds. Baby girl, you are amazing.

P365 | WEEK 1

1. What better way to start the new year than a great day in a great city with my family! Times Square, baby.
2. Okay, I cheated a bit with this one. M took the photo, but I was there when he took it. And this photo marks L turning over a big-girl leaf and testing out her brand spankin' new car seat! That justifies it, right? Right.
3. My hubby knows just the way to make a girl's crummy day better. Her favorite flower.
4. Sometimes, you just need the creamy, delicious comfort that comes in the form of that blue box.
5. Can you spot the weiner dog in this picture? I'll give you a hint - he's all warm and snuggly!
6. This is what happens to your nightstand when you are basically living out of your bedroom with a one year old and a sinus infection. Why yes, that is a creepy tiki man on my nightstand. And, no. He doesn't usually live there.
7. A rare shot of my morning bug. Paci? Check. Mama's cell phone? Check. Dress from last night that you slept in because it was a late-ish night and mama and daddy were tired and you were asleep when we got home? Check!

So, week one was a great start! I actually remembered to take pictures and took a lot throughout the week.
Let's hope I can keep this track record...

If you're doing the P365 challenge, leave a comment. I'd love to check out your photos!
