THIS WEEK'S DINNERS

July 27, 2020

So, we found out today that our guy has covid. We believe it's being traced back to his work and while the kids and I have no symptoms, we plan to self-quarantine in the house (separated from M, of course) and just assume we're positive. He's okay and we're okay and we're just hanging in there.

Up until now, we've been cautious. We wear masks and hand sanitize, we don't really socialize outside of a super tiny circle. It's a weird feeling, feeling guilty and terrible that you could have spread it to someone else, but knowing that, in this covid-era situation, you did everything you could with the knowledge you had on hand.

That being said, I'm pulling double duty and meals are about to get real easy again (and all groceries are getting delivered!).

I think I'll enlist the kids help in making the pizza dough. We're going to have to get creative again with how we spend our days at home!

Send me all the ideas, friends. And stay healthy out there, xo.

OUR LIBRARY HAUL

July 8, 2020

A bright spot in our days lately is a trip to the library! Our library recently reopened (with extra safety measures in place) and while we can't hang around and spend hours playing or going to story time, we can still fill our bag with book choices for the week and it's bringing so much joy to our home right now.

I thought I'd start sharing some of our libary finds. The kids and I each pick a handful and we typically fill up our library bag every time we go.

Nico tends to grab whatever cover interests him. I'll always add in some books that I want the kids to read too!

Atlas of Dinosaur Adventures drew his attention pretty quickly. We have the Atlas of Animal Adventures at home and he made the connection and insisted we get this one too.

Saturday is the sweetest story of a young girl and her mom and a typical Saturday that doesn't work out they way they planned but the ending is heartwarming.

Lia tends to hunts down whatever is interesting her that week or she browses for the next book in whatever series she is currently reading. Right now, it's The Babysitters Club!

Meg, Beth, Jo, and Amy takes on a fun, modern twist to Little Women. We recently read the classic version together and then obsessed over the movie versions too.

We went yesterday to renew our cards, grab our holds, and stock up on some new books! We're, like a good chunk of the world, obsessed with Hamilton right now and once Lia saw I had a few books about Hamilton and Eliza, she immediately went off in search of her own options.

Who was Alexander Hamilton is the only one she found in our library, but we did put a hold on Eliza: The Story of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton.

She's also really into the "who was" series and I love hearing her rattle off the facts she's picked up from the books.

And, I usually have mine pre-picked for me on the holds shelf. It makes our trips a little more peaceful when I have already looked up what I want to read and had them put on hold. I'm currently reading Dear Edward and Becoming but I plan on digging into these next.

I also track what I read on goodreads and share what we're reading here too.

What good books are you reading lately, friends? In this weird and unsettling COVID time, I'm extra thankful for books taking us away for a while.

36 HOURS IN ATLANTA

February 18, 2020

We found ourselves with a long weekend and no plans, so we booked an inexpensive hotel room and decided to spend some time in Atlanta! Like most of our plans, we did little beforehand prep. I like to look up the city we're visiting on my phone while M drives and we make plans on the go!

Our main, and really our only, solid plan was a stop at Zoo Atlanta. Zoo Atlanta is on the smaller side but it worked perfect for us since we got there later in the day. 3 hours was plenty to see the entire zoo (at our kid's pace!) and grab a snack on the way out. Nico's favorite part was getting to ask the orangutan keeper a question about feeding time. It turns out they share a favorite food - fruit!

While driving to the zoo, we realized that the original Chickfila Dwarf House was on the way, so we stopped for lunch! There was a 30 minute wait to sit in the diner side but the kids were plenty entertained with the dwarf door while we waited. I was happily surprised to see their classic chicken salad was on the menu (it's been discontinued most everywhere else!) and M's burger was, hands down, one of the best I've ever tried.

A stop at the Martin Luther King Jr. birthplace is a must. We got there an hour before closing and while that was plenty of time for us to see most of everything, you could spend so much longer there really diving into the history and civil rights.

Atlanta has endless places to eat and shop at! We stopped at two of their markets - Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market while we were in town.

Ponce City Market is large and bustling and it just has a great vibe. It's a dining hall style so you can easily grab food from different stalls and eat together in the middle. We grabbed food at Hops Chicken. The chicken biscuit + fries were so good! We wandered the shops too. It's one of my favorite things to do in a new city. The kids found dessert at a cookie dough bar and L thought it was so fun to have a scoop of cookie dough!

Top Golf was a big hit with the kids. Pun intended! Especially for N since mini golf is his favorite thing.

Centennial Park is another must-see. It was fun to show the kids the sights since it's an olympic year. A little tip - ride the streetcar! It's a $1 per person and you can ride the entire loop. It'll drive past the park, downtown sites, and the MLK Jr. center. The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever and we won major parent points for the "splurge!".

We finished our trip with a stop at Krog Street Market! It's another dining hall style market, but on a much smaller scale than Ponce City. It was late in the day and I wished we would have had more time to spend there but I had the best cheesesteak, M grabbed chicken fried rice and the kids had chicken + waffles. Everyone left happy and full!

Atlanta is gorgeous and artsy and full of history and delicious food. Even in the winter, we spent almost the entire trip outdoors and it was pretty perfect. Adding it to our list of favorite cities and dreaming of our next adventure!

OUR GREEN MASTER BEDROOM

March 27, 2019

This is our bright master bedroom! The past few years I've been a little obsessed with using green in design - our master bedroom first, then our guest room, and a few fun touches in some client work I've done. The main inspiration for our bedroom came from this pin. The moment I saw those green walls, I knew it was our color. I didn't know the exact color but I found what I thought was the closest match and went with it. I am THE worst when it comes to painting swatches - I usually go on a whim and it usually works for me. This time? It worked!
It took me a few years before the green walls to figure out the direction I wanted to go in. Like the rest of our house, the furniture has clean lines and there's lots of black and white with natural pops.
The color is pretty bright but the room is large and gets lots of light so it's really soothing versus being overwhelming. It's just as cozy at night, too!
