SIX!

Our girl turned six this evening and we celebrated by giving her reign over the entire day. She chose Build A Bear and mac & cheese for dinner!

I feel like 6 is one of the last ages where she's really a little girl. Already she loves listening to Bruno Mars and wearing my red lipstick. She's smarter than what's good for her. She knows when I say a bad word under my breath. And she never fails to point it out.

But, she's also sensitive and quiet. She wears her heart on her sleeve. She talks nonstop, but not always about the things that are bothering her. Unless she's scraped her leg and then you'll never hear the end of it.

She's funny and quirky. She's recently loving on Legos. She acts like a mom to her little brother and loves him more than anything. She takes her vitamins seriously. She loves books. She loves cellphone games too.

And no matter how many times a day I feel like I am parenting her wrong, or that I am failing, or that I really can't take another tantrum or attitude from her, she's perfect. My sweet baby who took her sweet time coming into this world is absolutely perfect.

Happy Birthday baby cakes. I am so excited for everything that's waiting for you!

THE NUTCRACKER 2015

Another year, another performance. I have to say, my girl still amazes me. She loves dancing and she takes it seriously and she puts everything she has out on that stage.

This year the music came on and the girls started dancing and Lia ran off stage. My heart sank! I froze for a second, unsure if I should run backstage after her or let her work it out. It turns out, I wasn't needed. Her ballet teacher whisked her back on stage and she picked up where she left off like nothing had happened. The piece of tape that marks her place on the stage had been accidentally picked up by the curtains and she didn't know where to stand.

She couldn't wait to tell us all about it but otherwise, it didn't affect her. She wasn't embarrassed or shy. She didn't forget her steps. She was brave and beautiful!

Afterwards, we went out for pizza which was the complete opposite of a relaxing, fun family dinner but still, we celebrated!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOU AND YOU

Christmas went by too fast, of course. It was Nico's first Christmas and if you combine the fact that he's the second child and my intense exhaustion and general "haven't been myself in oh, months and months", then that will explain why the poor kid's christmas jammies were in the laundry pile, the lack of quality pictures and the fact that despite how happy we all really were, at the end of the day I felt like I could have done more, celebrated more, enjoyed more, documented more.

Nico liked eating cardboard and playing with wrapping paper more than he enjoyed his toys. Lia said the legos were her favorite! I think there's still a present or two under the tree that we didn't get around to.

We feasted with good company and somehow managed to keep the kitchen clean all day. We face-timed family and listened to A Christmas Story in the background all day.

All in all, it was a very good Christmas. We were blessed and happy. Until the next one, xo.

THE GREAT CHRISTMAS TREE HUNT, EDITION 3

I think we picked out our tree this year in less than 30 minutes. That must be a record for our family. We (which probably means mostly me) take our Christmas trees seriously. I think I've let go of the idea of a perfect Christmas this year. I'm more like "hey, Christmas is getting done and that's good enough" right about now.

But, we got a tree. L was big enough this year to pull it to the guys up front to pay for it. Nico didn't really care about this particular shin-dig but he did act cool through the hundred photos I snapped before peeing through his clothes. Then, I spent a good half hour picking out dead tree pieces from my favorite blanket about two weeks later.

Our perfect tree is gorgeous and twinkly and sporting a new skirt this year. I'm happy!

CHRISTMAS AROUND HERE

December 23, 2015

Happy eve of Christmas eve, friends!

We're all a little under the weather from something or another around here but still really loving this break from school! All of the holiday shopping is done and there's just a couple items from the grocery store that I've forgotten in my past four trips.

Presents are wrapped, the lost present was repurchased, stockings are hung with care. Cookies have been decorated and the table is still covered in icing.

In the midst of slight chaos and evenings full of cranky and tired kids, I'm trying to remember to breathe and take it all in and savor these last few days of this holiday. The chaos will pick back up soon with birthdays and the new year. But tonight, I want to savor it.

May your days be merry & bright.... xo.

THE WEEKLY

I haven't been keeping up with things here as much as I should! Which is more than likely the result of being overtired and mentally drained. I'm so excited about the holiday break that's here! No more uniforms and packing lunches. No more rushing out of the door early in the morning. No more papers and quizzes. Just some holiday cheer!

Classes are finally over for both M and I! I made all A's and I've got a shiny 4.0 GPA to show for all of my hard work and stress.

Lia has been suffering from nightmares and sleep has been pretty rough lately for everyone. I am pretty sure her worries are stemming from an incident we had a few weeks ago with the fireplace. Long story short, the service tech was supposed to fix one small issue and somehow ignited the air around the fireplace causing some flames, ruined Christmas stockings, a loud smoke detector and drama and stress all around. Thankfully, no one was hurt. However, the kids were sitting at the kitchen table having lunch and they witnessed it all. My nerves were pretty shaken but L took it worst of all. We've got an appointment lined up to talk to her pediatrician and see if counseling is something we need to look into.

Nico, though, wasn't really affected. He is growing and weeks away from being ONE! He isn't walking yet but he speed crawls around the house getting into everything. He's such a ham and keeps us all smiling.

This week was full of getting things done and crossing off to-dos. Our house is as decorated as it's going to be! I'm starting the big birthday planning. Lia had a big day at school this week but she started running a fever while at school and now she's home resting it off. Though, I think a dose of Motrin did the trick because she seems to be in better spirits. We had family pictures taken earlier in the week and the few I've gotten a peek at turned out amazing! It's funny how something as simple as family photos turns everyone into basket cases right before the photos are taken.

Other fun mentionables:
Surprising L (and her other school friends with birthdays this month too) at school with a fruit flower basket!
A donut morning.
Hand painted Christmas cards. That haven't been mailed yet. Oops!
Dreaming of a fluffy, long eared bunny that was looking for a local home.
A boy who took his diaper off during his nap.
And, a bowl (or two) full of summer fruit that tasted more ripe than I thought possible in the winter.

Here's to a fun holiday break, a plan to visit Santa over the weekend and blogging more often.
