My Favorite Target Finds This Month

Target is not disappointing with the home decor lately. With my kids in school full-time now, I can browse the aisles of Target to my hearts content and dream about all the new pieces I'd love to incorporate into our home.



Textured wall art // These caught my eye on a Target run a few weeks ago and I resisted snatching them up but I'm obsessing over the neutral vibe they give off.

Concrete planter // My favorite style of planter lately. These would look great on a back patio with some lemon grass or a fern.

Jug vase // A great natural piece for open shelving.

Tall glase vase & Short glass vase // The perfect vases for trying your hand at the dipped vase trend. 

Striped doormat // The perfect doormat to freshen up your porch for spring!

Dots print // Another print that stopped me in my tracks. I love the entire thing!  

Basket w/handles // I did snag up this basket and it's perfect for holding our library books.

Pillow // The Hearth & Hand line has a lot of great textured pillows and throw blankets right now. Of course, I'm always drawn to the black & white ones!

I could easily find a space for all of these items in our home!

What I Read in January

I had no plans to make another reading goal until I realized how much I loved the amount of reading I did last year. I made a loose goal to read 100 books this year but mainly, I just want to track the books I read so I can look back on them.



What Kind of Woman - An honest and beautiful collection of poetry. I loved starting out my year with this one. 

We Run the Tides - I expected a lot more from this novel. It was good but I kept feeling like something was missing. 

Love Your Life - A cute romantic comedy novel!

The Fixed Stars - A memoir about life, love, and finding out who you are. I really enjoyed reading something on a deeper, personal level. 

The Queen's Gambit - I read this so I could watch the show. I never got around to watching the TV show but the book was good! 

Widowish - Another personal memoir. This one was a deep read and heartbreaking at points but overall, a really good read.

The Huntress - A historical novel win. This one switches back and forth in time but focuses on World War Two and hunting nazis with personal and inspiring characters woven in. One of my favorites of the year so far!

Home Body - Another poetry book. Quick read but enjoyable!

Winter Solstice - The final book in the Winter Street collection. Loved the Quinn family when I started the series last year and still love the Quinn family now that their story is complete.

The Sunday Edition, 29

I'm tired, you guys. Just exhausted and finding myself waking up everyday and pep talking myself to just get through the day. It's just the season we're in this week, month, year. It's all a lot. But, I cling to the daily joys and the normalness wherever I can find it. 

A new library book, ripe tomatoes to snack on, friday nights gathered around the TV watching the newest episode of WandaVision, school projects coming home, morning kisses from my babes, a stroll through the farmers market, a Target run, restocking the toilet paper basket and folding all the towels. 

If you're tired too, keep hanging in there. Add up all those joyful, mundane moments of your day and use them as fuel! 

And here's a few things from around the web...things that brought a smile to my face and a little joy to my soul.

Our go-to pancake recipe, as of lately. There's something about the mundane task of making pancake batter from scratch that has a spark of magic each time I do it.

A Textured Art DIY

I have been tackling small projects around the house lately! Switching up art work, restyling shelves, and anything else that crosses my mind to freshen up. It never fails that spring starts to roll around and I want to give the house a shake up!

This textured art project was the perfect one to try. Inspired by a post I saw on Instagram recently and the ever popular trend lately to cover stuff in joint compound/spackling/mud and bring some beauty to an old piece (that I've been meaning to do forever!). 


You're going to need: 

  • A old framed print, piece of art, or canvas (I used a large framed print I got at Ikea years ago that's just been collecting dust in the guest room) 
  • Spackling compound
  • A putty knife
  • Tape
  • Paint

This was so easy and and cost under $12 (with plenty of spackling left for another project)! 


Ok, tape off your frame! Painters tape is great but I didn't have on hand so washi tape it was! In light layers, just slap it on with a putty knife until the entire piece is covered. Spread it in different directions until you've got a texture and interest you like! And, get your kiddos involved! My little guy loved helping spread on the compound.

Then let that gorgeous piece dry, probably overnight.


When it's dry, just remove the tape and fill in any gaps around the edge. I alternated between my fingers and a small angled spreader I had on hand. Let that dry and you're done!


I styled mine and sat with it a few days and realized that the putty dried a little too pink for me. So, I grabbed a small bottle of white acrylic paint and did a few light coats over it! I just tried to feather it and then fill in the larger textured gaps to cover all the pink and blend it well. 


I really didn't put a lot of thought into it. Natural and easy was what I was aiming for. And, I love it! It's a great statement piece and mine is extra special since my kid helped me create it.
