The Friday Edit

We made it to Friday! Can we make it through Friday? I have a much-dreaded dental appointment this morning and then I'm hoping for a quiet, restful weekend!

Maybe we'll bake cookies or I can paint Lia's nails to match her soccer jersey. Maybe we'll finish the puzzle that's been sitting on the table for months. We'll probably do a lot of dishes and laundry! My girl scouts are going to help clean up a local beach! It's going to be a figure it out as we go weekend.

And here's a few things I've saved, pinned, read, listened to, and loved lately...

Cannot wait to take myself out for this movie

My favorite nail color right now!

This chicken was on our menu recently and we loved it.

Books you'll currently find lying around my house: Slightly South of Simple and Who Were the Beatles.

Can't stop reading all the bits on the Johnny Depp trial.

Slang knowledge. Nico (age seven!) told me that about something that was "sus" this week and I felt old.

Enjoy the day!

The Magic Is Back At Disney

April 28, 2022

Hugs are back at Disney! We went to the parks with my family earlier this month and on our very last day Disney brought back full on character meet and greets with hugs and autographs and no masks! The magic that filled that day... SO good!

Disney Springs is always my favorite way to start our trip. Once we check into our hotel, freshen up, and grab a bus or boat ride to Springs, it always hits me that we're there. You know that blissful feeling that comes after you've been at the pool or beach all day and you go home and shower, change into something you love, and head out to dinner? That's the feeling! We ate at The Polite Pig this time and the jalapeƱo cornbread was amazing. We popped into Gideon's for some cookies since I promised L I'd take her back (the timing didn't work for us last time!). And, I found some cute Disney-inspired tees for the kids here.

The rest of the trip was all about experiencing all our favorite things again. Calvacades, hugs from Mickey, food around the world in Epcot, capturing my kids in front of the castle (watching them grow up in front of the castle is so good!), and hopping on our favorite rides.

Olive rocked her second trip there and loved it. Mickey is her new favorite and we made sure to pick her up a Mickey stuffy before leaving. His ears make a good teether!

Nico rode Soarin' for the first time after a few bribes and proclaimed it "the best ride ever"! He also did Test Track on his own (single rider line!) twice and only wants to ride that way from now on!

Lia was just really happy to be there with extended family and get to go on rides with her aunts and cousins! She was also my snacking partner in Epcot so we could hit all the stands!

And as always, I'm counting down the days until we can go back because these memories are some of the best and Disney is most definitely our family's happy place.

Olive Lucia, 6 & 7 Months

April 27, 2022

Our Olive-girl turned seven months a few days ago! The seven months hit me a little hard, I'll admit. It seemed like such a big number and wasn't she just my tiny, little quiet bundle of joy that I gave birth to? Tiny no more, though! She's fun and happy and love to eat!

Six months...

Loves everything she has tried so far - avocados, bananas, sweet potatoes, and zucchini.
Tried the baby swing at the park and giggled!
Solid daddy's girl. Unless Nico's around. She loves our boys!
Loves when her big sister gets her out of her crib in the mornings.
Dipped her toes in salt water for the first time.
Still sleeps through the night but is fighting naps like a champ.

Seven months...

Said mama for the first time! Hasn't said it since...
Sleeps through the night and naps pretty decently.
Went on her first airplane ride to NY and met her abuelitos, tios, and primos!
Hates baby food pouches but loves table food - especially avocados, rice, tortillas, and mangos.
Wears 6-12 months and size 3 diapers.
Pulls off all her bows.
Eats her toes!
No teeth yet but drools all the time.
Took her second trip to Disney and fell in love with Mickey Mouse!
Starting to sit up.
Had her first pool day and loves the water.

She brings light and joy to every one! And, she's so dang fun to watch grow up!

It's a short meal plan this week since we're going to Disney! Food just tastes better at Disney, you guys. But until then, we're taking advantage of being on break from school and soccer and making some new recipes. I've got a dentist appointment this week that I've been dreading and we still have lots of packing/prepping to do so here's hoping we can fit in a side of family game night with dinner one night before we leave!

Happy Friday! Today was the first day that we were allowed back into the kid's school as visitors and volunteers so we spent the day cheering our kids on at their school's fun run event. It felt surprisingly normal! And, this weekend we've got soccer practice, playdates & birthday parties, and some packing and cleaning to tackle. We're all excited for a week off from school and routines!

And here's a few things I've saved, pinned, read, listened to, and loved lately...

The best thing I made for dinner this week - a chicken pesto sandwich.

Books you'll currently find lying around my house: The Last House on the Street and Taste: My Life Through Food.

Currently binge watching the Sex and The City reboot.

Lia's favorite new brownie recipe.

Recently bought: matching Disney tees for the kids, this basic black dress for summer, and a new family game for game nights!

Here's to the weekend!

Let's Pack For Disney!

April 7, 2022

We're heading back to Disney next week and we're all ready for some extra magic in our days! Usually about a week out I start to think about my packing list and make a note of anything I need to do or buy before we leave. And, we've been enough times that I basically know what we need for a good trip! So, I thought I'd finally share it here with you guys.

We have gone to Disney on a few adults-only trips but most of the time our kiddos with us! Packing for kids at Disney is a whole different kind of fun so take what you need from list and leave the rest.

I usually pack way too many clothes but I'm okay with that. Otherwise, I pack minimally. Especially my park bags! One backpack for us adults and the two big kids and my diaper bag (it converts to a bookbag!) for Olive. Pre-Olive and on adults-only trips, I usually wear a fanny pack big enough for my phone, debit card, and hand sanitizer!

This is not an all-inclusive list! I don't know you or your specific needs and I don't like packing enough to create a very detailed list. If you need one though, here's some great options. But, these are essentials that we would sorely miss during our park days!

So, here's our must-have items for a day at Disney...

For my park bag...

  • Wipes (baby/hand/lysol/toilet wipes)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • A mini handheld fan for the hotter days.
  • Sunscreen
  • Cheap ponchos
  • Sunglasses and a baseball cap on the hot/sunny days
  • Masks (currently they are only needed on enclosed transportation!)
  • Credit/debit cards or gift cards (we usually avoid bringing cash into the park.)
  • Phone and portable charger (download the Disney app - it's all you'll need all day!)
  • A small "first aid" bag - basically a zipper ouch with a few bandaids, chapstick, extra hair ties, an anti-chafing stick (perfect for shoes or thighs rubbing!), cortisone cream (my kids have excema that flairs up), pepto bismol for the kids, and Tylenol. So, every park has first aid buildings that can give you most/all of this but these are the few I choose to carry with us and only stop in if we need anything else.
  • A few snacks! You can bring food/drinks in the park so we'll pack pretzels, goldfish, and apple sauce pouches to fend off any hunger-induced bad moods between meals and splurging on our favorite Disney snacks (looking at you mickey pretzel!)
  • A reusable water bottle with it's own filter. You can get free cups of ice water all around the park but the tap water does have a slightly odd taste.
  • Fidget toys. Nico once got the flu at Disney because he literally licked the hand rails there. He was like 5 and clearly 5 year old boys are gross. So, since the pandemic, I stash little pop-its or small fidget toys in the bag for them to hold in the longer lines.
  • Extra stash of clothes or underwear for the littles! Just trust me on this one.
  • Autograph books and a thick pen or sharpie (those are the easiest for the characters to grab!). The normal meet & greets should be coming back this month!
  • Ears, hats, trading pins (if that's your thing - it isn't ours...) I'm really excited to try out those headband style Minnie ears for Olive!
  • Our refillable popcorn bucket - because Disney popcorn is the best. And the cheapest snack you'll find in the parks.

For babes...

  • Diapers/wipes
  • Bottles/formula/food
  • Extra clothes
  • Stroller fan
  • Cup holder and stroller organizer (if your stroller doesn't have one!) and a stroller hook (in a super cute disney style!)
  • Stroller and/or baby carrier (we bring both!)
  • A wet bag for dirty/wet clothes or items

Do you love packing? It sends me into an anxious state for days! Lists are my best friend when it comes to packing (especially for Disney, it can feel so overwhelming!) so I hope this list is helpful for you!

Have a magical day, babes!

Welcome to The Friday Edit! Formerly known as The Sunday Edition. We're just moving things to Friday because I never blog on the weekends nor do I remember to pre-plan a post!

I hope you've got cozy and fun plans for this weekend! We've got soccer practice and a Girl Scout meeting this weekend and hopefully we can find time to hang out on the sofa and watch another Spiderman movie with the kids (we're working our way through the series!) and enjoy a good meal together.

And here's a few things I've saved, pinned, read, listened to, and loved lately...

A few easy April Fools Day tricks to play on your kiddos, if that's your thing. It's not really mine but I usually try to do something easy and silly for them.

Listening to on repeat: Forever My Love by J Balvin & Ed Sheeran

Planning: a dainty picnic tea party for my Girl Scouts and our family Disney trip next month!

Recently bought : Stanley tumblers for the kids, the Casaluna chunky knit blanket for our bed, and these Disney Pop-Its for our trip!

Hair inspiration because the postpartum hair loss has me wanting to chop it all off!

Books you'll currently find laying around my house: The Love of My Life and The Lazy Genius Way

I'm in the middle of prepping for all the Easter things and these hand-painted eggs are so pretty!

We recently found these flat baby spoons and they are perfect for starting solids with Olive.

Feeling excited to clear up a corner of our cabinet (using this) where the spices have gotten out of control. And, that's on being in your thirties!

Have a great weekend!
