THE BEST OF OUR FOURTH

We celebrated the 4th at home this year! We tend to be all over during the summer and we've only spent a handfuls of July 4th's at our house so, when we are home, we don't have any set traditions besides eating delicious food and watching fireworks.

Which means, every 4th that rolls around usually looks a little different for us. Which can be totally fun it it's own way!

This year we broke out the water balloons for the kids and had a very lazy day at home. We cooked up some finger-licking good ribs and some of the kids' favorite BBQ foods (deviled eggs, grilled hot dogs, corn on the cob!). We had big plans of making these s'mores for dessert and basically ended up with the worst (best?) Pinterest #nailedit ever.

Then we moved the party to Parris Island for the most gorgeous views and fireworks. M works on Parris Island so we were able to snag a great spot away from the general crowds. I packed a bag of snacks, glow-sticks, and a ball and the kids were happy as clams by the water.

We searched for seashells, watched the tiny crabs scatter around, and went through every box of Pop-Its I bought. Spoiler alert - I didn't buy enough!

Nico hates fireworks, we've learned. He ended up falling asleep with headphones on during the show. Lia, on the other hand, has finally reached an age where she's okay with fireworks (even though she still hates the noise!).

And our perfect location had views of 3 different consecutive shows. It was really a perfect fourth of July.

How was yours, friends? Steeped in tradition? Full of delicious food, family, and fun, I hope!
