LETTERS TO LIA | 24 MONTHS

December 29, 2011

You did it babe. You turned into a full fledged kid. When people ask me how old you are, I won't be rambling off some double number followed by "months". I'll just say two. She's two. You're two!

IMG_7864

I swear, it seems I was just in the hospital yesterday. In lots of pain, screaming at anyone who'd listen that they better get you out of me right away. I know you weren't ready to come out. I'm sure you had your own plans for when your birthday would be. But the doctors had their own plans and I was just caught in the middle.

They finally caved in to my pleas and around 5 PM, you were born via c-section. From the moment I laid eyes on you, my world changed. It became brighter, happier, more beautiful. Since day one,  you've had us all wrapped around your tiny fingers. You run the show around here.

I tell you all the time, and I can't seem to tell you enough, how amazing and beautiful and perfect you are. How your eyes sparkle when you are really excited. How the little pitter patter of your feet running across the floor makes my heart do flip-flops. That I can't imagine a day without our house filled with your shrieking laughter. I wouldn't trade your good moments, your bad moments, any of your moments for the world!

IMG_7902

I don't know how mommy and daddy were so blessed to receive you as our gift but we are beyond thankful. You truly light up our worlds. The last two years have been amazing and they flew by. I'm so excited to see what this next year brings!

Mommy loves you SO much! Always remember that.

Stats:
Your 2 year wellness visit isn't until mid-January because mommy didn't find a doctor and set up an appt right away like I should have! So I'll update again after the visit.

You take 2-3 hour naps once a day, most days. If we are out and about, somehow a 10-15 min nap does the trick. You sleep anywhere from 8-9 PM to 7-8 AM. And you won't go to bed without your blankie and your "Bee". And someones your baby and Brobee. That's usually when you don't want to go to sleep so you stall by asking to get more stuff!

IMG_7868

You love to "clean" by pulling out tissues and wipes and wiping down tables and chairs. But, if you want a wipe - you'll bring the box to me, give me the cutest little smile and hold up 1 finger. Haha it's so adorable - of course I can't say no to that.

Clothes - 24 months/2T. A few random 12-18 month/18-24 things fit you but not many.
Shoes - You've been in 3 different shoe sizes this year! Right now it's a 6. We'll see how long that lasts ;)
Diapers - Size 5. But i'm really hoping to start potty training soon into the new year.

When you want your diapie changed, you run to me and hold your nose and point to your booty. It's seriously really cute! And if someone poots, you laugh and hold your noise. Why gas is so funny to you, I don't know!

We call your paci your "bobo" and you are more addicted to it than ever. I used to keep them in a basket in a drawer but you've learned how to open that drawer and take them when you want. Now when you want one, I tell YOU to go find it because I rarely know where they are!

IMG_7863

You also learned how to open all the closest doors and the pantry door. You pretty much do what you want with what you want! Ms. Grown Up! We are going to find some way to child-proof the closest doors though. I cringe thinking of you closing your fingers in them. And, its kind of old to walk in your room and see ALL of your pajamas strewn around the room because you took the liberty of taking all three drawers our of your dresser. How do you learn these things?!

You are talking more and more each day but only when you want to. I mean, you babble all day but I still can't understand most of it. If you really want your point across, you'll slow down and say a word or two and that'll be that.

New words you've picked up & Words you've been using a lot of lately:
Sit (which sounds like a bad s*it, to be honest!)
Back (when i've grabbed something to get you and you don't want it, you tell me "mama, back. back!"
When you call Toby, you say "bee".
Gabba for Yo Gabba Gabba.
You say phone whenever you hear our phones ring or make a noise then you'll run and find them for us.
Milk.
Juice.
Stay.
Come.
Tree.
Dora.

You LOVED Christmas. You would turn the tree lights on every day and just sit in your rocking chair staring at the tree.

IMG_7918

You got a baby doll/stroller/crib for Christmas and you have loved playing mama. You carry your baby around and give her a bobo and you sleep with her too!

You've learned where your ears are and now we're working on knees and toes. You can say almost all of the body parts you know too.

You love to follow me around most of the day and copy what I do. If I laugh, you laugh! If I turn on music, you like to twirl around and dance. You usually make me twirl around and dance too! You love watching me put on my make-up and I let you "wear" my powder and lipgloss.

You still love helping me and daddy do the laundry and unload the dishwasher. Knock on wood we haven't broken any dishes yet!

You love playing with your toys in your room. Most of the times when I think it's too quiet so I go searching for you, you are sitting in the bean bag in your room reading books. You love bath time but you hate when we wash your hair/rinse you off.

Lately, all you've eaten is cheese, spaghetti, popsicles and cereal. Along with Goldfish and applesauce, of course. You eat what you like and you throw what you don't like off your plate! You have been eating chicken or turkey when I cook it, so thats a good thing! Oh, and you like to steal my food and my drink and my utensils. Even when I give you regular forks & spoons (not your toddler safe plastic ones). I guess I don't mind sharing ;)

IMG_7885

The tantrums run high these days and time-outs and talking-tos are a daily thing around here but I think we're getting a grip on the sassy-diva attitude. It isn't perfect but you are starting to learn whats good behavior and what makes you look like you belong on "Toddlers & Tiaras"! But, I wouldn't change any of it for the world.

I love spending every day with home. It's not always easy, but me and you? We belong together. We're best friends and this is the way it's supposed to be.

You keep changing and growing every day. I love seeing the world through your eyes. I love the excitement you bring.

This weekend is your birthday party and I am so excited for you. You are two! You aren't my little baby anymore.

IMG_7946

Happy Birthday mamita. We love you!

XOXO,
Mommy

LETTERS TO LIA | 23 MONTHS

December 1, 2011

Took these snapshots tonight when I noticed you picked up the Journey catalog and found the Yo Gabba Gabba merchandise. You just sat on your stool, like you were reading the magazine, being all grownup!

23 months. Twenty-three months. 2-3. One month shy of being TWO.

Time seems to fly by without giving a second glance back. It feels like I'm supposed to have a baby yet I am chasing a toddler around day after day.

Little girl, you are spunky and spirited and crazy and funny and loving and sweet and sassy and stubborn. You are amazing and beautiful and smart and creative. You are my world. You are your daddy's world. You wrap everyone you know around your little finger.

These days, you love to play and run around and make messes. You love to dance & twirl around. You love to help with the laundry and dishes. You love to copy whatever we do.

This month, you've learned your body parts. You can point to your eyes, nose, mouth, teeth, hair, elbows, hands, fingers, feet and belly. We are SO close to nailing ears too :)

You say more, need, no, Ashley, bobo (your paci), uh-oh and uh-uh.

You've learned to do the robot. It is sooo cute!

You are quite demanding and you know what you want. In fact, you expect to be given whatever you want. You're pretty spoiled but that's just because you are so loved.

We have our good days and we have our not so good days. But, I love spending every day with you. I so excited to see what the next month brings!

XOXO,
Mommy

LETTERS TO LIA | 21 AND 22 MONTHS

November 26, 2011

L-bug,

Here we are, you are just a week away from turning 23 months old (holy heck, really?!) and I'm just now writing the past 2 letters.

Time kind of got away from mama. Between living at grandma's, daddy's temp + new job, house hunting, moving to SC, settling in and everyday life in between, I just haven't taken the time to write your letters. Shame on me because these letters are really important. I want you to know how cherished and loved you are. How amazing you are. What you learn day to day and how you are growing into the most beautiful, creative, loving little girl.

So. The past two months? You've become a whole new person. Don't get me wrong, you are still the big brown eyed girl who steals hearts but you are blossoming and changing every minute.

Your speech is growing. You are constantly babbling + talking, but I can only make out certain things!

You say :
daddy. all the time!
go
no. all the time :(
more
sit
stop
foofa
bee. meaning Toby.
please. only when you want to though.
mommy need. when you are telling me something you want.
bath.
bubbles.
juice.
baby.
and of course, all the other words you've learned.

You are wearing 18-24 months and 2T clothing. Size 6 shoes. A few of your size 5's work, but only because you don't have enough bigger shoes to fit you! Size 5 diapers.

For the sake of mama's sanity, you are still taking daily naps. From about 1-3 pm, you sleep every day. And when you aren't napping, you are a mess making, toy playing, snack eating machine! You love to drop out every.single.toy you own. You've yet to master picking them back up. You tend to do what you want, when you want. You are very spirited!

You love your Little People, play food and blocks + balls. You love playing outside. You still love Yo Gabba Gabba but lately you have been watching more Wonder Pets and a Dora episode or two.

You've taken to sleeping with your blankie, stuffed Toby, Brobee + Foofah. I don't know why. You also need a nightlight every night now.

You are wearing your glasses more and more, which saves mama a lot of guilt and worry. You look so cute + stylin' in them!

You are sort of nosy and like to know what's going on. If I change the TV channel from your cartoons after you've left the room, you run back in and start yelling at me. Cute + funny - but really kid? You weren't watching it anymore! You love to play alone. Well you love to play with Logan, your new friend. But normally if I try to play, you always snatch the toys out of my hands.

You can open up the closet and pantry doors. If I don't give you a snack when you ask for one, you just grab the closet thing you can reach in the pantry (always cereal) and help yourself. Your an A+ laundry helper too.

You are fascinated by Christmas lights + inflatables. You say hi and bye and blow them kisses every time you see them. I think Christmas this year is going to be so much more fun!

Words can't even describe how proud I am of you, little girl. There's not enough room in the world to contain how much love I have for you. So my heart grows and stretches a little more every day for you. I can't wait to see what the future brings for us.

XOXO,
Mommy

LETTERS TO LIA | 20 MONTHS

September 6, 2011

20 months, baby girl. It's been 20 months since you came into my world and shook it all up. In the best way possible!

I am a blessed mama. I have the most amazing kid who's growing so well every day. What more could I ask for?

Yeah, some days I break down. Some days I look down at you and wonder how such big tantrums can come out of such a little girl. Some days I think I've reached my breaking point. But I will always have an abundance of patience and love for you. I am your mama and you are my baby. It's me and you, together forever.

This past month...whoa! You have changed so much. So much! You are picking up words left and right. You are absorbing everything you hear and see. Including that little trick your uncle matt taught you. Yeah, the one where you learned how to throw things at people.

Some new words you've picked up are:
Ice cream
You are really saying daddy so much more.
Your welcome (well, really you just say welcome)
Please
Up, stop and sit are words you say everday.
Ball.
Apple.
Teeth.
Bath.
Eat.

We've introduced some flashcards, trying to help your speech out. Just making sure you're always learning! You love the A for apple, B for ball and I for ice cream cards. The others? You don't give those much thought.

You wear 18- 24 months. Some 12 month clothing fits you. Size 5 shoes. Size 4 diapers.
We're down to one nap a day. Two on really tough days. You go to bed between 8-9 pm every night and are up anywhere between 7-8 am. You LOVE brushing your teeth.

Eating habits are pretty much the same!  You love to dip anything and everything in ranch or ketchup. But you got that natural from mommy and daddy.

You are running, climbing, twirling and moving as fast as you can these days. You love bubbles and snacks and Yo Gabba Gabba. Oh, and balls.

You understand so much these days. I can talk to you as if you were a child and not my little toddler and you know what I'm saying. And most of the time, you actually do what I say!

You are smart, creative, full of determination, beautiful, amazing, sweet, caring, radiant. You are you. And that makes my heart swell each and every day.

Beautiful girl, keep being you. I can't wait to see what's next!

LETTERS TO LIA - 19 MONTHS

August 8, 2011

My babe turned 19 months last week. It's getting to the point where she's looking more like a kid than a baby. I love it and I hate it.

L-
You are such an amazing little girl. I love seeing your personality develop and see who you are.

You are so independent. In the past couple months, you've really grasped that you are capable of doing things on your own. You climb on furniture. You can climb into your booster seat when it's time to eat. You can tell us what you want, mostly with your body language. You understand most of what we say to you, you just choose when to listen!

We are in that stage where some days are incredibly fun and some days are incredibly tiring! You know you can do things on your own but you still don't understand some things are best for mama and papi to do. Like touch ovens...

You are learning to push yourself in your coupe car.

You copy EVERYTHING! The other day, I was showing you how to bake cookies. I was opening the oven with potholders and I closed the oven door with my knee. Well, you went right behind me and lifted your knee to help close the oven then threw your head back laughing!

That's another thing. When something is really funny to you, you throw your head back and laugh. Which makes us laugh. Which makes you do it even more!

In the past week or so, your vocabulary has been growing!
You have started saying papa (for grandpa), Ashley, Blake, & Maddie. Family names!
You've started saying papi (for M) alot more, which makes your papi really happy.
Please - has been heard by everyone BUT me.
And, Yo Gabba Gabba is what you say almost non-stop. You see a TV - yo gabba gabba? Phone - yo gabba gabba? PlayStation remote - yo gabba gabba? Laptop - yo gaba gaba? You are a big fan.

You've mastered the art of tantrums. Seriously. Yesterday alone, you threw yourself in the kitchen floor with loud cries about 5 times. In the span of one hour. I know you are a toddler and you are testing your limits and learning right from wrong but some days? It's just hard. You like to throw things now. I think that's partially mine and M's fault from playing around in front of her. We're trying to un-teach that one!

You can count to 3 with help from us. When you feel like doing it. Because you are in charge of everything these days! You love clapping when you do something right. And you really love helping out. With dishes, with laundry, with cleaning up the table and your toys.

You are still really shy around people. You get scared easily too. Loud noises, new people, doctor appointments. Freaks you out and you cling to mama.

You weigh just shy of 25 lbs.
You are 32/33 inches tall, I believe.
Wearing mostly 18-24 month clothing. Size 5 shoes. Size 4 diapers.
Napping at least once a day. On days where we stay home, we can usually get two naps out of you. You go to bed around 8 pm and wake up around 7 am.
You have almost a full set of teeth, minus ones in the very back. And you love to brush them!

Eating-wise, you are still big on snacking and not so much on meals. You love to feed yourself with adult forks though. And, it's getting harder and harder to get you to take sippy cups. You want big girl cups and straws. You still love all the same foods, with a new found love of fruit loops and ice cream cones.

We are still attempting potty-training, at a very slow rate. I don't believe you are completely ready but I am following your cues and introducing the potty. You understand we go pee & poop in the potty and you've got a new obsession with throwing toilet paper in the potty or wiping yourself. We can get you to sit in the potty for a few seconds but you get a little freaked out. Or annoyed.

You are growing up so fast and so beautifully. I know these days won't last long so I am soaking them in. I love you little girl, with everything I have.

XOXO,
mommy

LETTERS TO LIA | 17 AND 18 MONTHS

June 29, 2011

Oh my, baby girl. How you've grown in the past two months is crazy. There is no doubt about it - you are really officially a toddler.

In the past two months you've:
Gotten your 1st haircut.
Learned some new words.
Learned to rip your glasses off your face!
Started playing with dolls and using your imagination more.
Played in the ocean.
Become way too attached to your bobo (what we call her paci).
Visited 2 new states.
Perfected your tantrums.
And, been loads of fun!
I don't know your stats - I have to schedule your 18 month checkup. I do know your appetite has really changed and you don't eat nearly as much (meal-wise, snack-wise you are still a big snack eater!) so I would guess your weight hasn't changed too much. Height-wise you look like you grow every day!

You are in a size 4 diaper and wear mostly 18-24 month clothing. Depending on how they are made, some 12-18 months still fit you. You are working your way into size 5 shoes. Your have so much hair you sport pigtails most days! You've got between 13-15 teeth, you really don't like me messing with them. But you do love brushing your teeth!

Your favorite foods include cheese, freeze-dried fruits, apples, mandarin oranges, yogurt, applesauce, pasta, peas, ketchup (you seem to think this is food vs a dip), Gerber lil crunchies, cookies, fruit, french fries, macaroni & cheese. However, I can usually get you to eat eggs, pancakes, chicken nuggets (only from chickfila!) and bread and bites of other normal meals we have. Sometimes. You still refuse to drink milk.

You love to talk  but I have to say, I still can't understand most of what you say. You can point to things and make motions and get your point across, but it does worry me some that you don't speak super clear. I do need to work more on that with you.

So far you can say:
Mommy (very well and you are usually screaming at me).
Ma (which you use to get grandma, aunt shell's & aunt Ashley's attention)
Papi and Dada
Bird
Dog
Hi
Dance
Step
Ball
It's mine
Ouch
Trash
Tickle
Gabba Gabba
Go
Stop
Toby
Shoe
Sit
Three
Tres (3 in Spanish)
Duck

You are doing very good understanding English and Spanish!

You are starting to understand and LOVE games. Peek-a-boo is your favorite. You also love twirling around while mommy sings "ring around the rosie" to you. And, it makes you have a complete giggle fest to crawl all over your daddy and cousins and try to push/roll them over.

You can point to your bellybutton (and everyone else's!). You can also point to your nose. We are working on other body parts!

I have a feeling you may be slightly obsessed with cleaning/organization when you get older. You always find wipes or tissues and you "clean" tables and chairs and yourself! You also pick up trash when you see it and take it to the trashcan. You'll bring mommy or daddy things that don't belong where they are. And, usually, you'll clean up after yourself making sure everything is right.

Today we spent 5 1/2 hours in a Honda dealership trying to buy a car. You did awesome, by the way, and mommy & daddy are soooo thankful for that! We let you play in the toy room for a while and when we were ready to leave for a lunch break we asked you to clean up. You picked up all the toys, organizing them between two toy boxes. As we were walking out, you noticed you had left toys in the play mailbox. You pulled those toys out, put them away and we tryed leaving again. As we were walking out the door you did a double take and noticed you left the toy box open. You turned around and closed it, looked around the room again and then you let us leave. You are one smart and determined cookie!

Your tantrums are something else these days. If you don't get your way or get told "no", your face crumples up like your world is ending, you crouch down then throw yourself into the floor. You cry pretty hard for a minute or two then you stand up to see if you can get your way yet. You also seem to think that if you give us a kiss, we will give you whatever you want/are asking for. Sometimes we do. Because it's too cute to resist!

You are a messy outdoor girl all the way. You love playing with balls. We still can't get through a trip to Target without stopping and playing with all the balls. You like to go outside and ride in your wagon or cozy coupe car. You love playing with sand toys at the beach and chalk on the sidewalk. You can stay outside all day long if we let you.

You are still obsessed with Yo Gabba Gabba. You dance and sing along with all your heart. It's truly adorable.

You love animals, Little People, your new kitchen set and play food, your new grocery cart (it's super cute seeing you push your baby around and "shop"). Lately, you've learned how to unzip mommy's makeup bag and pretend to put make-up on.

You've been sleeping from 8-9 pm until 6-8 am and taking one nap, unless we're driving in the car and you typically sleep then too.

You are so insanely smart and pick up on everything going on around you. I still look at you in awe and amazement sometimes. You are growing so fast but I am loving all the new things you do!

Happy 17 & 18 months, L-bug. I love you!

XOXO,
mommy

LETTERS TO LIA | 16 MONTHS

I am so behind on your monthly letters, little girl. I had planned on doing them for just the first year then turning them into a book. But who am I kidding? You are so amazing these days, I owe it to you and me to keep up with these letters again!

The months seem to fly by. I can't believe you are so big already. Your second birthday will be right around the corner before we know it.

You are not a girly-girl. I read blogs of other little girls your age who like to dress up and wear their momma's jewelry and treat their dolls with care and love. That is not you! You are inquisitive and smart and so curious. You like to figure out how things work, open and close them, turn them off and on. You never stop. You are a bundle of endless energy, between your naps that is! You still love your Little People but any kind of balls and music are quickly becoming your favorite. We can't walk past the big bouncy balls in Target without you trying to take one out and lug it around the store. Any time you hear music, you start bouncing up and down and nodding your head. You sing in the car, too.

You are a very sassy girl with a very short temper. You want things your way, when you want them. Otherwise, you throw huge tantrums. We are working on that. You are spoiled by everyone, but we are working to make sure you aren't too spoiled. Your personality is huge! I look back on your baby days and everything was so different. I loved it and I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss those days, but babe, I love these days too. It's so much fun seeing how you react to things. Seeing you learn new things everyday and using words. Sometimes I feel we aren't doing enough for you, as far as teaching you things. I'm going to try hard to work on that more from now on.

You don't use words often to ask for what you want but you do know how to get your point across. You've figured out how to grab our hands and pull us in whatever direction you want to go. You stomp your feet when you want someone to hold or pick you up. You are very good at letting us know what you need.

I've been meaning to start a list of all the words you can say. For now, these are what I can remember!
Dog
Hi
Toby
Shoe
Mama
Sit
Stop
Dada
Three
Tres (three in Spanish)
Duck

We speak to you in Spanish and English. Well, daddy speaks to you in Spanish! I am hoping you grow up to be bilingual and speak both languages well.

You love all the dogs you get to hang out with in grandma's house. You can tell the difference between Toby & Chloe (two dachshunds) when we ask you where one of them is. You love playing outside. It's really hot and humid here in NC this time of the year so we don't go outside as often, but when we do, you have so much fun!

We went to the Strawberry Festival last weekend. We bought you a new bow and when we showed it to you, you put it on your head. You are so smart! They had some animals out there as well, you said "duck" when we showed you what a duck was and you got to pet the baby sheep. You were a little nervous at first but once you saw it was a sweet animal you perked right up. You kept saying duck and waving "bye-bye" to the animals!

You eat pretty much anything. You are off the bottle. We offer you one bottle of milk every night but you rarely take it. We only offer it because you really don't want to drink milk out of a sippy cup and you still don't understand that squeezing juice/milk boxes will cause the beverage to go everywhere!

Your favorite foods are:
Bananas
Apples
Animal crackers
Mac and Cheese
Pasta of any type
Mandarin Oranges
Yogurt
Peaches
Pears
Strawberries
Cheese (you are famous for going to the fridge when someone opens the door and opening the bottom drawer and getting a slice of cheese out!)
Fruit pouches (pureed fruit)
Goldfish
Cheerios
Eggs

We try to get you good, healthy meals but you really aren't a fan of any meats. You will eat veggies and fruit and cheese all day long though, so that's your typical meal. We try to stick to water all day for you and one cup of juice diluted with water.

You are still a good sleeper. You take two naps a day (if we are home and on your schedule) lasting for 1-2 hours each. You are awake every morning between 6-730 AM and you go to bed around 8 PM. We don't have much of a routine for those. You get a bath every other night and you aren't into sitting still for books nor taking a bottle/cup of milk. We know it's nap time when you get overly cranky and whiny. When it's bed time, we offer you milk and snuggle in the chair if you take it. Otherwise, we grab your paci and you say goodnight to everyone and we lay you down in your crib. Lately you've been crying when you lay down for naps but usually you go right to sleep.

You still think Yo Gabba Gabba and dancing are two awesome things. You love being pulled around in your wagon. You love bubbles. You seem to be a thrill seeker at a young age!

Stats:
22 lbs
29 inches
You've got 11 teeth. 8 in the front (top and bottom), 2 on the left and right on top (I think they are molars) and 1 coming in on the bottom right (also thinking it's a molar).
Still wearing the size 4 diaper and shoe. Sadly, I gave you my high instep so not all shoes fit you.
You mostly are wearing 18-24 month clothing. A few 12 month things fit you and the same goes for a few 2T items.
Your hair is crazy long and I am counting the days for aunt Shell to come home and cut it!
You recently got new glasses, the plastic kind which I recommend to anyone needing glasses for kiddos! You wear them all the time, minus when you are sleeping. They don't see to bother you one bit and I know you see better with them on.

You are my sunshine and my rock little girl. Daddy and I love you so very much and we are so proud of you. Keeping rocking your amazing self, I can't wait too see how much you grow in the next month!

Baby girl,
You've done so much this month. I feel like the most honored mother in the world to have been able to watch you grow and bloom into the amazing, beautiful little girl you are today.

Taken in your second week. Photography by Bri.

It doesn't seem like it was only last year I was ordering doctors into giving me a c-section because you absolutely didn't want to come out yet. We spent a week in the hospital together (four of those days you were still in my belly!). From the first moment I layed eyes on you, my world was changed (for the better) forever. Not every day is a walk in the park, but having you has made me a better person. Having you has made me the happiest I have ever been.

I look at you sometimes and I truly cannot believe how smart you are. How much you have learned. How you have 7ish teeth already (as of the last time I counted!). You feed yourself. You hold the phone to your ear and "talk". You play on your own. You walk! If the first year went by this fast, I know the rest are going to FLY!

I'm excited for you to grow up and see all the different stages and things you'll do, but it's a bittersweet goodbye to your first year.

Daddy and I love you so very much.  You have brought so much joy into our lives it's indescribable. We wish you the very happiest 1st birthday and many, many more!

XOXO,
Mommy

Here's your latest stats:
21 lbs - Daddy lovingly calls you his little gordita , because you are quite the chunkster and you love to eat.
27-29 inches, I want to say. Honestly, I'm not positive - but we'll know when we go to your appointment soon.
Size 3 diapers.
12-18 month clothing. Some 18 month clothing.
Size 4 shoe.

Here's your latest tricks:
You like to hide toys in other toys. For Christmas, you got a ride-on toy where the seat lifts for storage. I've been finding all kinds of toys and stuff in there...

You love phones, remotes and cameras. You won't leave us alone until we give them to you!

You've been fascinated with my eyelashes. When I hold you, you'll look at them and try to touch them. Trust me, you have some long and beautiful ones yourself!

You love taking baths. But you won't sit down in them anymore. You stand up and throw toys over the side and laugh when I toss them back in for you. You still hate having your hair rinsed out after I wash it.

You officially only eat table foods!

Your favorites are cheerios, spaghetti with meat sauce, macaroni and cheese, eggs, cookies, bananas and applesauce. You'll eat some veggies and cheese and bread, but you are definitely learning how to pick around to the foods you do want to eat.

You got glasses! You do pretty well at keeping them on (unless you are bored in the car!) but mommy tends to forget them. I have to get better at that!

Oh, and when I said up there that you are walking, I mean walking. By yourself. Pretty darn steady. Without anyone coaxing you or trying to help you.

You also bend down, pick things up off the floor and stand back up without losing your balance! I was pretty proud to see that happen.

Still hating the word "no". But, we're trying to teach you "yes"!

You love to play with blocks and Fisher Price Little People and musical toys.

You had your 1st Christmas - and got totally spoiled!

You also just had your 1st blizzard (and no, not the yummy treat from DQ!). You didn't hate the snow, but I don't think you loved it very much either.

You're learning where things go and what they do. You hold a spoon when you eat and you know what to do with it, but you're still figuring out your hand-eye coordination. I've also notice you pick up random pieces of clothing around the house and try to put them on yourself. You'll pull a sock over your foot and a dress over your head. It is so cute (and amazing!) to see you learning and grasping these things.

I lurve your laugh. It's so happy and cheery and your dimples show.

We started transitioning you to whole milk. Today, we are only going to give you whole milk. No more formula! We're going to work on cutting out your middle-day bottle. And, soon, just giving you milk in your sippy cup.
Mommy is so excited to see what this next year brings..

Taken 2 days before your 1st birthday.

If I could give you some advice for your many years of growing and learning to come - it would be...
"Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day."
It's not always easy, but try to look for the good in everything. It helps balance out the not-so-good and gives you a better outlook on life. And, remember, sometimes it's all about the little things!

LETTERS TO LIA | 11 MONTHS

November 30, 2010

Lia turned eleven months old yesterday! I remembered around 4:30. Needless to say, I had nothing prepared for her eleven month letter. Mommy fail!

Eleven months? How am I supposed to wrap my head around that number? How is my sweet baby girl going to be one years old in 29 days? Where do I find a location big enough to hold our family and friends in December that won't cost us a fortune? Our apartment isn't teeny but it will be a bit crowded. And the only other option I had in mine is booked until February! Maybe I should have planned that part a bit more in advance...

Lia bug - where did the time go? Most of the time, I look at you and see my little baby. But lately, there have been a few times where I've looked at you and I've seen a one year old. Almost a toddler. It's so hard to believe that you are getting so much bigger every day.

Your 10 month checkup was last month. You weighed in at 21 lbs and around 27 inches. And your head? Well, it's still big and growing! You were still dealing with your throat infection so you didn't get any shots. Sadly, you're getting them today. Your doctor said you were doing everything you were supposed to be doing and you look great! We can even start transitioning you to whole milk and giving you egg whites. Mommy and daddy think you are ready to start getting whole milk and losing the bottle. You have cut back to mostly 3 (6 oz) bottles a day. One when you wake up, one after a nap, and one before bed. In between, you get mostly table foods for meals. Your favorite breakfast is cheerios and sliced bananas. Lunch is usually whatever mommy is having, if you eat it - you are typically napping in that time period and then get your bottle when you wake up. Dinner is whatever we're having most of the time. Lots of pasta, veggies, spaghetti and meat sauce, rice and beans, shredded meats. You pretty much feed yourself everything now, unless mommy resorts to baby food and then I feed you. You love playing with the spoon but you haven't quite grasped the spoon with food to mouth skill yet.

You are still in size 3 diapers. You can finally wear shoes, even though you aren't crazy about them. You wear a three or four. Clothing wise, you are mostly in 12-18 months. A few 6-12 or 9 months fits you.

You can walk! It's just a couple baby steps here and there, always with me or papi standing in front of you cheering you on but it's something. You know when you're going to do it because you'll stand (or we'll help you stand up) and then your eyes will get big and light up and your face just says "oh yeah, I'm about to do something really awesome and mommy is gonna scream like a crazy lady". It is seriously the most adorable look. Ever!

You are a babbler. You can now say mama "mamamaama", dada "dadadada", hi and hi toby "hi tododo". You can wave bye, but you usually do it when the person has already walked away. You understand how to give kisses when asked in English or Spanish. We speak both languages around you and so far, you seem to understand everything you are told. Now, mommy has to catch up and learn!

Your favorite things right now are:
Toby.
All other dogs.
Standing in front of the door, looking outside.
Your push toy/walker.
Cheerios.
Mommy.
The remote control and cell phones.
Swinging at the park.
Yo Gabba Gabba.
Boxes.

Lately, most of what you do is follow me and whine until I pick you up. I guess it's the stage you are in. Everything has to do with me. I can't walk away from you. I can't put you down. I can't do something without you doing it. I don't even pee in private! I am flattered baby girl, really, I am. I love spending all my time with you. But hey, let's give Daddy some of that attention too. Okay? Okay!

You are getting so big baby girl. It's such a joy to watch you learn new things every day and to see your happiness when you master them. I know you have to grow and get big, but promise me you'll always be my little girl?

XOXO,
Mommy
